Luciano Pavarotti (1935-2007), R.I.P.

Luciano Pavarotti, the greatest operatic tenor since Caruso, is dead. He never sang in Cuba. Enrico Caruso did, many times. Of course, we were a civilized nation then. Cuba, for those who care to know it, was the operatic capitol of the Americas long before opera became popular in the United States. Cuba's present chancletacracy, which aped many of the tastes of the elite, never quite developed a taste for opera.

The world is a darker place when we lose people like Luciano Pavarotti, may he rest in peace.

Cuba's present chancletacracy

This may be the best description I have read of Cuba's current situation.
