Notable & Predictable: Henry Praises Ron Paul

"Paul says we need to get back to the ideas of the founding fathers and I agree but If France had subscribed to the isolationist philosophy that Ron Paul espouses, back in the 1770s, we'd all be singing 'God Save the Queen.' Something to consider" Henry "Economist" Gómez, "Obama Will Win the Democrat Nomination," Babalú, February 9, 2008

I predicted that Henry Gómez would end up supporting Ron Paul and now he likens Paul's ideas to those of the Founding Fathers, with some reservations about isolationism (which was George Washington's creed, remember, "no entangling alliances?"). Sometimes, I ask myself, why do I bother? I can read him like a book and the book is of absolutely no value. Still, so long as Babalú is perceived in many circles to represent the views of most Cuban exiles, it must be fought at all costs even if it requires me to parse the writings of a political ingénue with an imperfect knowledge of history. It should be noted that Spain — which Henry hates — was also crucial in securing America's independence. Not only did Cubans, then Spanish subjects, fight at Yorktown alongside the French and Americans but their female relatives underwrote the costs of the Yorktown campaign, which resulted in the surrender of the British and the realization of American independence. And for this neither Spain nor France — and much less the Cubans — demanded a naval base on Chesapeake Bay.

Is this guy Henry stable? Why does he hate Spain? I don't get it.

Henry is as stable as we can hope for. Last year he started an organization named BUCL whose first "campaign" resurrected the Black Legend and made Spain the focus of all the ills that have befallen Cuba in the last 50 years.

Mat no empieces con esto. Recuerda Iam a charter member of BUCl..Nosotros no nos referimos a todos los españoles sino EXCLUSIVAMENTE A LOS SOCIALISTAS EN EL PODER Y LOS COMERCIANTES INESCRUPULOSOS QUE COMERCIAN CON EL REGIMEN , LOS ZAPATEROS , LOS MORATINOS Y POR ESO SE PUSIERON UNOS AFICHES CERCA DEL CONSULADO ESPAÑOL EN MIAMI..

NO TRATES DE DESVIRTUAR EL TEMA

It is you who are rewriting history. BUCL's first protest was called the "Campaign Against Spanish Exploitation." Zapatero and Moratinos were never mentioned. I devoted countless posts to pointing out that the Spanish people are no more to blame for the actions of their leaders or multinationals vis-a-vis Cuba than are the Cuban people for the Castro regime's internationalist adventures or for the predations of their native robber barons. But Henry never understood this and persisted in blaming the entire Spanish nation for the actions of a few bad Spaniards.

Henry keeps praising the xenophobes, which tells us the kind of person Henry must be.

As always Manuel you are correct.

BTW Hillary just fired her campaign manager, she's blaming the "menials" for her mistakes.

Isn't Babalu suppose to be a Cuba blog?

It's a blog about Cuba that is also a blog about whatever else happens to pop into the heads of its 16 (count 'em) editors.

For example, yesterday bacon was on George's mind and bacon was what he wrote about.
