I can only speak as to Cuba:

Cuba does not have the government it deserves but the government that the U.S. thought Cuba deserved.

Today as in 1959.

America has been successful in propping up Fidel. Whether these dictators are in the Middle East or Latin America. America has historically propped up many dictators for reasons that need only satisfy the CIA and the Pentagon.

For example, America's true nightmare is if the Middle Eastern nations actually overthrew its dictators, and held free elections.

It is easier for our President to deal with one dictator, than to deal with millions of free people. The Pentagon tried to tell Bush Jr that, but unlike his father, Bush Jr didnt realize that America "needs" its dictators, i.e., Saddam Hussein.

Unfortunately, the Cuban exile community will have to wait through 8 years of Mccain's inaction towards Cuba.

If a President like Mccain who was brutally tortured by Cuban communist follows the same inactions as the former Republican Presidents before him. Then surely the Cuban exile community must realize that there are unseen forces in the American government who rather see the Cuban population handcuffed and shackled.

P.S.

I personally think America is fearful of the Cuban. Just as American is fearful of the Spanish-speaking population as a whole. Fearful of losing its English culture. Just my 2!!

Actually, Fidel and/or Raúl will almost certainly be dead within the next 8 years. Then the U.S. will finally have to deal with the Cuban people rather than with a dictator.

Manuel, Gracias por decir la verdad.

America has already lost its "English culture."

Hell, England has lost its English culture.

The Age of the Colonials has replaced the Age of Colonialism.

Ok Lol I understand. Thank you for sharing the truth with us all but you'd be a good one.

Have a nice day.

But Manuel, you would make an excellent president, with your sense of justice, fair play, not to speak of your intellect, and your proud Cubanidad, I would vote for you, right now.

And NO Cuba does not have the goverment it deserves, it deserves a 100 times better, we may all be there now, had it not been for Fidel.

Trust me, after dealing with Iraq, which is now America's 53rd state. America will quickly find another Cuban strongman. If this strongman happens to be a communist that can be bought and paid for, then even better. Lest we have a 54th state in Cuba, that America would likely want to even. Especially the good ole boys that make up the base of the Republican Party!!

Cuba didn't deserve Batista and Cuba didn't deserve Castro.
Without Batista, there could have never been a Castro.
Manuel supports Batista because his family was living the good life because they were part of this corrupt regime.
Why has it been a lot more difficult for Chavez to do in Venezuela what Castro did in Cuba?
Because in Venezuela the democratic infrastructure remained even after Chavez came to power.
In Cuba, thanks to the cowardice of Tellechea's idol, Batista, who fled in the middle of the night without any previous warning, the entire government infrastructure collapsed and Castro was able to fill the vacuum with his own people.
Batista was a thug, a coward and a murderer.
Manuel wont tell you this, but I will: He was the first president to legalize Cuba's communist party; he had communist thugs like Blas Roca, Carlos Rafel Rodriguez, Ordoqui and many more in his government payroll.
Ask him if this is true or not.
Batista allowed the Castro brothers to go free while murdering hundreds of innocent Cubans.
No democratic Cuban could defend Batista.
But Tellechea does because his family was part of that corrupt dictatorship and benefited from it.
The Cuban people deserve a democratic leader, like Dr. Oscar Elias Biscet, not thugs who were part of Batista or Castro's dictatorship.

Corrupt goverments, please, just look around, some are more corrupt than others, granted, but they are all corrupt, all polititians are nothing more than mere liars, Batista may have been corrupt, but you lived in a free atmosphere, you breathed free air, you lived just like you live here.

Are you trying to use Batista as a scapegoat for Castro? please! There would have been a Castro no matter who would have been governing at the time, because don't you get it? it was the good ole' USA who unmercifully stopped backing Batista, and gave it's alliance to Castro.

I don't buy that bull. Nothing would have kept Castro from power, nothing! he wanted it, he tasted it, he ambitiously went for it, and he got it! it was handed to him in a silver platter, by the good ole' USA.

BTW my family was not political, no one in my family as far as I know ever worked for Batista's cabinet and No! I'm not Batistiana.

Our friend Anonymous is a "fidelista without Fidel" (or perhaps not so much without Fidel). Yes, my family "lived the good life" before 1959. So did all Cubans. The bad life began for everybody (except Castro's henchmen) in 1959. We do not doubt that Anonymous' family belonged (belongs?) to the Revolution's new class of thieves who stole what they didn't turn to ruins and then enslaved their countrymen in order to serve their interests and not those of the nation.

I have never known a batistiano to deny his past. But fidelistas arrepentidos are legion. I respect the right of every man to be wrong but I insist that he admit it. What I abhor are those whom history has proved to be manifestly wrong and still insist on justifying a revolution that has brought nothing to the Cuban people over 49 years but misery and blood.

Before the Revolution, Cuba was a democracy where political parties, including those of the left, played an active part in the life of the nation. Would Anonymous have preferred it otherwise? Of course. He is a believer in a one-party state.

He and his ilk are still fighting Batista 50 years after the U.S. toppled his government and installed Fidel Castro in power. No matter that Batista himself is long dead and Castro is not.

What this tell us is that they cannot confront the present because they are responsible for it; and, above all, because they (or theirs) are still the same fomenters of class hate in 2008 that they were in 1959.

Once again, Manuel has refused to answer the questions that I asked about Batista, the communist party and the communist thugs on his payroll.
He tries to change the subject and use personal attacks, typical of those who cannot defend the indefensible.
He accused me and my family of being Castro supporters, a blatant lie. My family suffered a lot more than his the brutality of the Castro regime, because most of his family fled with Batista in the middle of the night on January 1, 1959.
They fled like the cowards that they are and after stealing millions from the Cuban treasury, they went to live comfortable lives in other countries while leaving Cuba at the mercy of Castro's hordes.
That is the truth that Tellechea cannot hide, no matter how much he lies and insults those who call his mentor Batista what he was: A military dictator who derailed the Constitutional process in Cuba; a corrupt leader whose army was incapable of fighting due to the lack of leadership; a violator of democracy who refused to conduct a clean election and rigged the last election before fleeing to say that his hand picked puppet had won; and in the end a coward who fled in the middle of the night leaving many of those who had helped him remain in power to face certain death ant the hand of Castro's goons.
That is the coward who Tellechea idolizes, and he does it because his family was part of those who were able to benefit from the corruption prevalent among the inner circle of batistianos in power.

Telleceha: "Before the Revolution, Cuba was a democracy where political parties, including those of the left, played an active part in the life of the nation."

That is a complete lie! Cuba was a democracy under the government of Grau and the government of Carlos Prio who succeeded him.
But in 1952, Tellechea's hero came in and overthrew the democratically elected government of Prio and instituted a dictatorship.
Who is Tellechea trying to fool? He knows that his 3 regular readers do not have the slightest idea of Cuba's history and he can fool them, but he cannot fool anyone else who reads this blog and knows what happened in Cuba before Castro came to power.
Batista and Castro are responsible of destroying the Cuban nation.
Batista for interrupting the constitutional process and create the necessary climate for a gangster like Castro to come to power; and Castro for taking the opportunity that Batista had given him to show his hate for the Cuban people by taking Cuba back to the XIX Century and making all 11 million Cubans his slaves.

Manuel A.Tellechea said...

Are you trying to prove now that you are not a fidelista sin fidel? Too late for that now.

The era of gangsterism fostered by Grau and Prío gave birth to Castro and concluded with Batista's unopposed and bloodless coup, which the Cuban people supported at the time. In 1955 Batista was elected president for a second time and his rule up to the time of his resignation was constitutional.

Nah Manuel, I'm not trying to prove anything. I already proved what I wanted to prove: That you are not a democrat; that you will support dictators as long as your family is part of that particular dictatorship ruling class; that I shut your big mouth up, when you were not able to answer the questions that I asked you about your idol Batista and his communist pals; that Batista was a coward who overthrew a democratically elected president and then fled in the middle of the night with more than $300 million dollars that belonged to the Cuban nation, and left the infrastructure of the Cuban government in shambles allowing Castro to fill the vacuum and make himself absolute ruler of Cuba.

And now you have resorted to apocryphal figures. What is your source for claiming that Batista "stole" $300 million? Forbes is my source for the fact that Fidel has stolen at least $900 million (that's not even counting what brother Raúl has stolen).

No batistiano has ever denied he was one because no one ever denies having been right. On the other hand, Cuba and especially Miami is full of fidelistas arrepentidos." But you are not even that. You are an unreconstructed fidelista who does Castro's bidding by trying to focus attention on the dead Batista to distract attention from the undead Fidel (and yes, a pun is intended).

Batista is not responsible for the ruin of Cuba over the last 49 years. Castro is.

Not hard to understand except for a fidelista as yourself.

Then, again, you probably blame high oil prices on Henry Ford.
