At the Birth of a New Word: "Babalunian"

It is certainly not a common thing to be present at the birth of a new word, but you are. As you know, I reject Val Prieto's own name for his cadres at Babalú ("Babalusians") and prefer instead to allude to its readers as "Valalusians," since I believe that gives a more accurate idea of the cultish nature of that blog. I will continue to use "Valalusian" when the occasion demands it, that is, when Val is having a tantrum or exercising his draconian authority over his decreasing number of commenters. However, I saw the need for a more generic term, which would describe Babalu's readership without direct reference to Val. I was not long in striking it off and must confess that I am impressed by its simple but eloquent beauty.

The new word to describe the habitués of Babalú blog is:

Babalunians.

It has the merit of not only incorporating the entire word "Babalú," but also "lunian," which is another word for "lunatic" (i.e. people who howl at the moon).

Use the word and use it often:

Babalunians.

You may do better with a slight modification BABELUNIANS

The word babel in hebrew means to confused or confunded

Lune is poetic name for the Moon, la LUNA

So a BABELUNIAN would be some one that's way out there in the moon, totally confused

Your suggestion has much to commend it. But I think it is necessary to preserve the integrity of the "Balalú" name lest the word be applied more universally than I intended.

There you go again Manuel, making me laugh, you are so witty, the things you come up with, will you keep us posted later, about the protest at Versailles? lol, funny, and so Babalunians it is, sounds like a cult.

Nothing would make me happier than were you to open such a blog. I would even comment there. Of course, I would post all my comments here, too, in case you decided to censor and ban at will as your BUCL handlers do.

Yes, I know, nobody handles fantomas. No wonder.

Fantomas,
Let’s see. Maybe we can start a contest among ourselves to name your new Blog. Here is the first suggestion.
“A review of the Cuban-American Blogs by a ghostly Rectal Orifice who like to insult all Cubans who do not agree with him”.

Vana said...

Lmao Agustin, good name

Sharpshooter said...

Vana,
I encourage others also to help him name his new Blog. Who knows, maybe he will take one of our sugestions.
Signed,

Manuel, (smiling)

All Cubans, except the "nutty professor" type, and his Kool Aid Kids! LOL.

Manuel A.Tellechea said...

Agustín:

That would be quite a name for a 1960s rock band "The Nutty Professor & the Kool-Aid Kids."

Do you play any instruments?

Fantomas said...

Manuel no cojas esto a relajo

Manuel A.Tellechea said...

fantomas:

I've already offered you my full support. What else do you want from me?

Sharpshooter said...

Manuel,
yes indeed. I scratch on my guitar sometimes and actually did play in a rock band in New York circa 1965. But was too busy with my studies to pursue a career in music. But I still play once in a while here in Cordoba with our friends. When we have gatherings with our Argentine friends we play together because I am a great fan of folk music from all over the world. I have been learning their music from these gatherings. A few gulps of wine and the music flows without a hitch. LOL.

Sharpshooter said...

Fantomas,
what is the matter? Can you stand a little humor? Or is it that you like it only when the humor is at someone elses's expense? Lighten up, is only humor. Remember that it was you that posted a story by Manuel about laughter, wasn't it?
Signed,
One of the Kool Aid Kids.

P.S. By the way, I must thank you. It has been a long time since anybody called me a kid.

I'm surprised that Val hasn't commented on this post. I had expected him to rant and rage: "You can call me a 'cocksucker' a thousand times but don't you dare call my camp followers "lunians," etc.

Have you heard that Tocororo Libre from Spanglish a lo Cubano has died? he was only 33 years old, someone left a message at Killcastro, I think Charlie and KC are too busy, and have not seen it yet, it pains me that such a young man has passed away, I thought maybe you knew him

Manuel A.Tellechea said...

Vana:

I did not know Tocororo Libre personally but had on many occasions exchanged comments with him. It is indeed a very great tragedy to lose someone so committed to the cause at such a young age. I will search elsewhere for more information. Thank-you for bringing it to my attention.

Vana said...

Manuel:
You are welcome my friend, hope you can learn how such a young man passed away, it saddens me, even though I did not know him.

Cool article as for me. It would be great to read a bit more concerning that topic. The only thing your blog misses is a few pictures of some gadgets.
