Finally, the "Breakout Post" at Babalú! ¡Ándale! ¡Ándale!

Cinco de Mayo has proved to be a lucky day at Babalú and its denizens are celebrating in the spirit of the day by drinking themselves into a stupor. Finally, one of their posts has taken off and reached a new record of 18 comments. Granted, it has taken the efforts of half its contributing editors to reach that landmark number, and even then the 18 are only two comments more than Babalú's roster of contributors. But "let's not be small, let's not keep books."

The post ("Happy Cinco De Mayo Infidels") is not about Cuba. Nearly or remotely. It's all about the occasions for drinking which the different (inter)national holidays provide for Americans (St. Patrick's Day, Oktoberfest, etc.). Cigar Mike — and now we have a better idea of why he chose that name — also mentions Bob Marley's birthday as an occasion for "smoking a spliff or drinking Red Stripe (although I think that beer taste like swill — sorry folks).

What can we say?

What is there left to say?

Is my own commentary even necessary anymore?

They have crossed the Rubicon of meaninglessness and have taken the beachhead of stupidity.

The utilization of marijuana, a dangerous controlled substance, outlawed by my nation.

Hey Cigar Mike, (aka a Cuban hippie) instead of buying dime bags for your selfish illicit hobby. Why dont you take that same twenty dollars and donate to a Cuban charity.

Alcohol, and hard drugs; celebrating? What is there to celebrate, with your Cuban brothers and sisters continuing to live in servitude.

Actually, i already know the answer!!

John:

At least they did not say that they celebrate Cuban Independence Day ("Veinte de Mayo") in that manner.

Well, for the Veinte de Mayo (the date escaped all their comments, a spliff of ignorance anyone?) they probably will smoke some campana, the national flower of Cuba.
The libertarian in me finds that it is up to a responsible adult to consume moderate quantities of any substance he likes, be it alcohol, mushrooms, weeds or smokes, but those Loonies seem to spend a lot of time enjoying forbidden pleasures.

Ah, those pickled brains they have in those jars they call heads, instead of brine they use urine to marinate them

No sir, it is a sad day for Babulu, when your highest comments revolve around your comsumption of drugs and alcohol.

The only thing i cant determine whether the drug and alcohol use is based on celebration, or despair over the collapse of Babulu.

I notice also that he (they?) confuse Cinqo de Mayo with Mexican Independence Day. Just ignorance, rudeness, or perhaps a whiff of elitism on the holiday barbie?

Looks like ole Mat stepped on another pinkie toe again. Potheads dont like to have their illicit buzz interrupted.

Anonymous said...

Yup, here we ago again. You can always tell when they "really" get upset. As they start citing ugly and illegal sites. They cant argue anything on the merits.

I am for one glad that Mat has taken over the mantle of the voice of the Cuban-American blogisphere. As Henry and Val can only bring shame and humilation upon the Cuban-American community, and the cause of a free Cuba.

anon,

Never have been, but i am sure that you are. Probably the only thing that really interest you about Cuba, is its prostitution of all its Cuban people.

We can't ask for the moon when we don't even have the stars. To teach the Babalunians Mexican history must come a distant second to teaching them Cuban history and they are a long way from learning that.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama appears to be rebounding from sliding poll numbers in the wake the controversy over his former pastor, according to a CBS News/New York Times poll released on Sunday.

Among Democratic primary voters, the Illinois senator now leads opponent Hillary Clinton by 12 points — 50 percent to 38 percent — the poll found. Obama led the New York senator by 8 points in a CBS/New York Times poll released just a few days ago.

The latest poll was taken after Obama’s comments last week repudiating Rev. Jeremiah Wright, who repeated statements that the September 11 attacks were retribution for U.S. foreign policy and that the U.S. government had a hand in spreading AIDS to harm blacks.

According to the poll, 60 percent of voters approve of how Obama handled the furor over the Chicago minister, compared with 23 percent who disapprove.

Clinton and Obama face voting contests on Tuesday in North Carolina and Indiana, the next steps in their battle for the Democratic presidential nomination to take on Republican John McCain in the November election.

Despite concern among Democrats about the potential damage to the party by the protracted Clinton-Obama fight, both are in a strong position against McCain, CBS said.

The poll found that in a general election Obama would defeat McCain by 51 percent to 40 percent and Clinton would defeat the Arizona senator by a 53 percent to 41 percent.

I do not know what polls are being referenced in the article you cite. The only recent poll that I credit shows that 27% of white Democrats would vote for McCain if Obama were their party's candidate.

What happened to the "inc.," as in "Cubanos por Obama, Inc.?"

Alegará locura
Cubano acusado de incesto se amparará en ese argumento para defenderse en los tribunales.

Por The Associated Press

No

I actually went to go see what Obama had to say last night. Placed was packed. I saw Andrea Mitchell from MSNBC too. Obama will still lose my home state. As there is a lot of angst over Obama possiblity of his vice president being a Spanish immigrant, i.e., Richardson. Which many feel will ultimately force Spanish upon our English culture.

Having said that, Obama is exceptionally smart man. Maybe at another time in history, America would have made him President. But as i said before, there is a serious Spanish illegal immigrant problem that is bedevling America. And unfortunately, Obama is not the President to handle it.
