The New Scrooges

"[Y]ou can contribute roughly $112.55 to the retirement fund of Fidel and Raúl Castro simply by purchasing this lovely and aesthetic 52" ceiling fan for $171.55 as a gift for one of your friends or relatives on the island. Although the fan is of dubious origins and quality, keep in mind that the Castro clan's retirement fund is a worthy cause, after all." — Alberto Cruz, "Now you, too, can make it a Castro, Inc. Christmas!," Babalú, December 24, 2008

Fidel and Raúl's "retirement fund" is already calculated in the billions. That might not be good enough for a Mexican president but it will certainly suffice the Brothers Castro in their declining years, which they are already well into. The profit from the sale of that ceiling fan or 10 thousand ceiling fans will not add substantially to their wealth and it certainly won't improve their standard of living. It is the hapless Cuban family, for whom global warming is already a reality because they have no way to escape the unrelenting sun, which will benefit by at least rotating the putrid air that surrounds them, supposing, of course, that they don't bring down the ceiling in attempting to install the fan, or that there is enough ceiling left on which to affix it.

I remember Val dedicated several gloomy posts to the week that he spent without air-conditioning in the aftermath of last year's hurricane season, which he described as the most miserable of his rather delicate life. Besides remaining cool himself, Val's chief worry was that the food in his refrigerator would spoil (massive quantities, no doubt). Such a concern would be the cherished hope of every man, woman and child on the island. If there is one thing that Cubans don't have to worry about is whether food will last long enough to go bad: living hand to mouth, and day to day, makes the thought of food going bad because there is too much of it and too few people to consume it sound rather fantastical.

Val's ordeal lasted a week or so, but if it had lasted 50 years he could not have been more despondent. Well, the Cuban people's ordeal has lasted 50 years and counting, but the quality of their lives is of no concern to Val & Co. Well, that is not exactly right. They do have a very keen interest in their lives, the same interest in fact that Castro Inc. does: they want Cubans as miserable and dependent on Castro as they can possibly be. This the Babalunians believe will foment an uprising: the same thing the Castroites are sure will prevent one. Castro has 50 years in power with which to back his position. Val has the boundless faith that if he can out-Castro Castro Cubans can be made to do his bidding rather than Castro's. And what does Val want Cubans to do? Well, what else? Shed "pools of blood" (have I not quoted him enough times?) Bleeding them is the cure for what ails him. Sort of like Washington having his slaves' teeth knocked out so that they could be used to fashion his dentures (yes, the true story).

It takes a heart of stone, especially at this season of the year, to begrudge Cubans on the island even the least surcease from their continual suffering. Though it costs them not a dime, they still resent that miserable ceiling fan as if it restrained their liberty or impinged on their comfort. Except they know that Cubans are suffering with every breath (or gasp for air) they are not content that they are doing everything in their power to advance the cause of Cuban freedom. Their concern for Cubans and Castro's are both sides of the same false coin. Cubans are for them an instrumentality and both have no qualms about driving their screwdrivers into their heads so that they can twist them one way or the other. The only difference is that Castro knows which direction benefits him. The Babalunians, of course, also twist in that direction whether from ignorance or the conceit that they can obtain a different result through the same method. This will never be the case.

At some point increasing the suffering of the Cuban people will become the end as it is now the means. They already believe that their only recourse now is to punish the Cuban people for enduring Castro's rule: punish them into their graves if necessary to rid the island of the monster that feeds on them. It need hardly be said that they are playing into Castro's hands. In fact, if Castro himself had written the script they could not have acted it more convincingly. The only question is whether they are too stupid to see this or see it and don't care.

I should not be surprised if one of the wits at Babalú rewrote "The Twelve Days of Christmas" citing what Cubans should not receive for each day. For the first day of Christmas we already know that they should not get ceiling fans. We wait to see what they should next be deprived of.

Here, choose whichever source is acceptable to you from the nearly 3 million on the net. The first two sources cited by Google are the George Washington Papers at the University of Virginia and the second PBS.

Washington paid his slaves for the teeth which were yanked from their mouths if that is any consolation to you:

  3. MAT,
Merry Christmas! Man I often wondered, where do you find this stuff? I just learned something about G.Washington I never even dreamed it existed.
I think we often attribute wonderful qualities and exemplary behavior to our Founding Fathers, but in the end is the realization that they were just regular men, with their own flaws and virtues.
Have yourself a wonderful new year.

  4. Yes, those patriots were men of their times. What nerve, they declared all men equal, and they predated Orwell by making some men more equal than others. They didn't even free their own slaves. They hypocritically called every man under the sun their equal, with the exception of those men, women, and children who were chained to the barracks behind the big house.
Not very different to those who elevate themselves in a fake pedestal who think and preach that first wave of exiles are the only true exiles, while avoiding the rest of us are avoided in a very studied gesture. Very interesting, I guess that some of us are less equal than others. Specially disregarded are balseros, since some of the uberCubans are staunch supporters of the pressure cooker theories and the Dry Foot Wet Foot. They are making dentures of the teeth of the balseros, too. Just as Castro has make dentures of the teeth of all Cubans in the island.

On the other hand, I would equate the founding fathers of the Cuban independence -the ones who liberated their slaves and other people's slaves with the real promise of freedom and equality for all, to those Cubans who consider all freedom loving Cubans their equals -no matter if they are exiled in an unknown handkerchief of faraway land or if they are still in the island -in the exterior prison or in the interior one. For them, exiles and inxiles are the same people, the one and only, and it never occurs to them that one Cuban could be more Cuban than other, or more equal than others. For that we already have Castro and his cohorts, thanks so much!
Merry Christmas for all, and in the spirit of the Cuban dissidents, the blessings of the birth of Jesus the Christ be with y'all.

  5. Out of topic, Cuban dissidents were expelled from a Church in Havana, in the "heat" of the Christmas season. The article appears in Cubanet, and points in the headline that the priest is "habanero". Reading the article one realizes that the cowardly priest is not an Habanero, but interestingly enough, a foreigner from an unspecified country. I left the following comment (with a reproduction of the article) at Penultimos Dias:

Please continue writing. This passage is brilliant:

"...Such a concern would be the cherished hope of every man, woman and child on the island. 7. The Babalunians are of the same mind set as the Castro clan, they too want to starve them into doing their bidding, is not ok for Val to suffer heat, but it's ok for those poor souls in the island prison, a case of do as I say but not as I do, just like the Castro's.

It's so obvious that a starving people cannot, will not revolt, just look to the Holocaust, the Nazis used the same weapon against the Jews as Castro uses against his very own people, starvation and hunger.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Wow, i have read Manuel's writing for nearly 3 years. And i must say that these writing of the last several weeks have been nothing short of brilliance. Very, very, hard-hitting.

If the intelletual class of the Cuban-American, would discard their desperate and tired embrace of the xenophobic republican party. And illuminate the suffering that has been viciously foisted upon the Cuban island, Cuba might very well be free by now, by popular demand.

And make no mistake, there has been a concentrated and (open) effort by the Democratic Party, the Republican Party, and yes, even the Cuban-Americans to continue the enslavement of the Cuban island.

Of course, each group has its own selfish reason. And each group knows exactly what the other groups interest are. But when the debate is focused (only) on one group, i.e., the Democratic Party. Then the debate is lost before the first word is even uttered.

This would have been a good time, to make the demands on the crippled Republican Party, that you should have made the last eight years. But as Henry Gomez has so frantically tried to convice everyone. America has moved on (without) the support of the Cuban-American voter. So, i doubt the xenophobic Republican Party much cares about the Cuban-American anymore.

And of course, the Democratic Party is much too strong at this point to take on. With President Obama at an 80% approval rating, and the leftist Mexican-American joining the Democratic Party by the millions. The Mexican-American will reject any type of meaningful dialogue between (their) Democratic Party and their Hispanic arch-rival, the Cuban-American. Note: at my Obama interview in Chicago, my interviewer was a Mexican-American. Actually it seemed like the whole Obama office was, as well as the city of Chicago.

So that leaves the last enemy of Cuba's freedom, the Cuban-American. The Cuban-Americans voices like Val Preito's whose hatered of himself, extends to his motherland.

Val mercilessly punishes his body and mind with excessive food, alochol and smoke. So it should come as no surprise that he wishes to extend his self-hating punishment, upon that which gave him birth.

Vana, Val and all of those so called Cubans who self-appoint themselves as the legitimate representatives of the entire Cuban diaspora, even though we have not elected or selected them as such, do not even deserve one lump of coal, not even one tiny briquette, I'd rather give that to any of our people in Cuba so they can put it to good use on the island, I remember all the rigamaroles that my family had to go through just to find coal for a make shift fogón, the old gas powered stove couldn't be used anymore because there was no gas to be found anywhere.

What does Val know about these experiences that we went through? What does Val know about the experiences that our family members go through in Cuba on a minute by minute basis every day? What does Val care about when his polity and policy is the same one as the dictatorship of the Castro Klan? Why should Val care when his parents were participants in bringing hell to Cuba and then had the temerity to flee from it to later pretend to be anti-Castro and anti-communists in exile? They are a bunch of fakes who convince themselves that they know more about what we and our families have gone through than we do, even though they all fled within a short period of time after helping the tyrant come to power. Please, to them Cubans are a means to an end, their end, which is to profit from the suffering of our (not theirs) people as long as the tyrants rule Cuba, and worse yet, even when Cuba rids itself of the shackles imposed upon it by the Castro Klan and those that helped bring them to power, these fake advocates want to be full fledged participants in making a profit from our people when our homeland is liberated, I have had enough of their pretentious arrogance and fake Cuban advocacy, they are all a bunch of criminals and I hope that when the days of reckoning come to pass in our Cuba they will be judged according to their deeds.

john with the lower case j, you are a liar, I reiterate, you have not visited Estrada Palma's Blog, he has never sided with Bush, McCain or Obama, while I have a number of opinions that differ from those held by Estrada Palma, the fact is that most of the time he has been correct, he deserves the credit that he has earned, he is not fooled by either the Democrats or the Republicans, so either visit the man's Blog and read what he believes, or refrain from accusing him of doing what he has not done, in the written form that is called libel.

Libel - A false publication, as in writing, print, signs, or pictures, that damages a person's reputation.

Liar - One that tells lies.

Fantomas, I don't celebrate fake holidays, especially not one like Kwanzaa which was invented in the 1960s by a black American communist, besides, those types of celebrations are more down your alley than mine, you are a closeted communist, so knock yourself out and celebrate a communist holiday, just like all the other so-called holidays that you celebrate in secret, like gay pride week, and guajiro del Caney that pretends to be from Santiago daily celebration and daily BS holidays like claiming that Habaneros are sent to Santiago as policemen, which they are not, you forgot that I am from Santiago (unlike you) the police in Santiago are from monte adentro en la guasima comemierda, Charlie Bravo is correct to point out that Havana's special police are from Oriente, but, they are not from Santiago City, they are from that fake province that was invented by the Castros in 1976. OK guajiro?

Not probably Vana, actually did is the right term.

The fact that he arrived at the USA as a baby is not the problem, closeting the truth of what was done and negating the participation of relatives IS a problem, they still are as Manuel has so succinctly classified them, "Fidelistas sin Fidel," my father was persecuted, scalded, spat upon and publicly humiliated by that same type of FSFs in Santiago, he had to be given sanctuary by people whose names I will not mention for their own protection, I remember as a child having to live with my maternal grandmother for long periods of time and not being able to see my father because he was being protected from the FSFs, the same scumbags that fled Cuba not long after what people like my father had tried desperately to expose for the good of the republic came to pass, the FSFs came to the USA to do what they used to accuse our families of wanting to do, that was according to them "a comér jamon" but we are supposed to believe that the "real revolution was betrayed." Yeah, right.

True, but if I were a habitual gambler, I'd bet you the $80.00 I have in my pocket right now that it was not Val, but Fantomas, it smelled of his style, Val lurks in the shadows and sends George to comment anonymously, it's not difficult to tell, there are give aways that speak for them.

Was your father able to get out with the rest of the family, and if so how?

    ReplyDelete
  80. Oh yes he did, the three of us left in 1972 and we were able to get my grandmother out in 1979, but some other family members are not allowed to leave, ever, one of my cousins made it out as a balsero and lives in Rochester, NY, he married a Canadian woman and I wouldn't doubt if they move to Canada any day, they visit her family in Canada every week. My father was lucky that the family doctor helped him out and certified (forged) his panel history to show a certain terminal ailment that my dad did not have, that's how he managed not to be sent to the infamous work camp known as "El Espejo", but they did send him to another one in the outskirts of (coincidentally) El Caney.

  168. George Moneo writes a tirade blasting the misspelling of the word collectable on an Obama tribute object. The only thing to be objected was the object of cult in which the figure of B.Hussein Obama has been transformed.
For his information "collectable" is the standard British spelling and collectible is the common spelling adopted in the USA. The Oxford dictionary lists collectable before collectible, for example. And then, there's nothing like a fratella in Italian. In any case, it should be a sorella, which is the correct translation of "sister". What's wrong with consulting a "mataburros" before sitting and writing something about a misspellings that are not, while butchering a Romance language?

  180. Israeli warplanes have resumed their air strikes on Gaza Strip, hitting targets all over the territory, including a mosque and a TV station.

In the first attack early on Sunday, Palestinians said Israeli aircraft bombed a mosque near Shifa Hospital in Gaza City.

Two bodies were retrieved from the rubble. The blast, just after midnight, blew out windows at the hospital, hospital officials said.

Another target early on Sunday was the Al Aqsa TV station used by Hamas. Its studio building was destroyed, but the station remained on air with a mobile unit.

Palestinians counted about 20 attacks in the first hours of Sunday.

Israel launched Operation Cast Lead on Saturday and threatened that the operation would widen if necessary.

More than 225 people were killed the air raids and about 700 injured as missiles hammered the Gaza

Not as lot as i did before Obama became President. I say probably about every other day. I used to come in here about 5 or 6 times a day, with 5 or 6 post a day, with a lot of heated and over-the-top language, with a lot of name calling.

But not anymore. Especially after my initial interview with the Obama transition team. No, now i kind of feel sorry for the Cuban-American.

What should Obama do in the Middle East in regards to Israel and Palestine

    12/27/2008 11:33 PM

That is not the correct question. The correct question is what is Obama (allowed) to do. In the last several weeks i have been doing a lot of independent research and soul-searching about my nation and politics.

I started this research, after it occurred to me that after 8 years of Bush, that America was not interested in EVER seeing a communist-free Cuba.

Even though i fully support President Obama. I have concluded that he, like Bush, are nothing but puppets.

Much like V.P Cheney and Rumsfeld were foisted upon Bush. These anti-Cubans cabinet members were foisted on Obama. The pro-Israeli cabinet members were foisted upon him. And even this election, like Bush's were already predetermined. Mccain purposely ran a horrific campaign, and threw in the joke of Sara Palin to ensure Obama's victory.

To be quite honest, my silence of late, is driven by despair. My idealism that i had of my nation, has been destroyed. I WAS LIED TO, all of my life!!

Therefore, i must again repeat, that the premise of you question does not have a proper foundation, in least regards to my unpopular school of thought.

    P.S.

What is sad, is that people will knock me for being stupid, a conspirator theorist. These people will be Cuban. As these people have not given a thought about the last 8 years of Bush's open disrepect, neglect, and in some cases oppression of the Cuban-American. But it wasnt Bush's heart that drove this. It was something bigger, something more sinister!!

At 190 comments, indeed RCAB is currently experiencing her best days of late. This under-performing blog was misused for so long as a tool of the xenophobic republican party.

Finally, albiet too late, she has been freed of her shackles, and allowed to bloom into the promise for which she was orginally intended.

It should be noted that Val Preito has provided an ample amount of material for RCAB. As Val the sneaking coyote that he is, has gotten rather comfortable in the fact that RCAB will no longer be hanging over him like an ever-present anvil.
