Anyone But Mitt Romney, Please

By selecting Joe Biden, Barack Obama has placed a lock on Delaware's 3 electoral votes. Of course, those 3 electoral votes were in his column already for all the good they will do him.

John McCain shouldn't make the same mistake.

He has absolutely nothing to gain by selecting Mitt Romney as his running mate.

Romney is not going to help him carry Massachussetts, his home state. God Himself couldn't help McCain to carry Massachussetts.

Romney's not going to help him carry Michigan, his father's home state, either. If Mitt thought that he had a chance of making a political career for himself in Michigan, he would have.

As for Utah, enclave of Romney's coreligionists, it's going to go for McCain, Romney or no Romney. On the other hand, selecting Romney would antagonize the Christian right which does not consider Mormonism to be a mainstream Christian religion.

The only thing McCain gets by picking Romney is a spate of tv commercials with mutually deprecating comments from their primary debates which will neutralize Biden's own putdowns of Obama.

RCAB has not concealed its profound distaste for Romney and shall be greatly disappointed if McCain picks Mr. "Patria o Muerte" as his running mate. If he does, however, we will have nothing more to say on the subject because a McCain-Romney ticket is immeasurably preferable to an Obama-Biden one.

So here, before the die is cast and hoping that it won't be, Mitt Romney's unique American story:

POSTSCRIPT:

The Republican National Committee has launched a "Biden Gaffe Clock" on its website to keep track of his slip-ups on the campaign trail. The first gaffe ocurred on Saturday, August 23 at 3:31 PM EST when Biden referred to his running mate as "Barack America." Mitt Romney is also subject to foot-and-mouth disease (see link above to his "Ten Biggest Gaffes") and were he tapped to be McCain's running mate the Democratic National Committee would surely return the favor.

  1. All we can do is hope McCain does not pick him, it would be a mistake.

Still, you had a good run.

Cubanos can handle multiple sex partners we know, but what would they do without the cigaros, ron & cafecito?

Writers are sometimes afflicted with something called "writer's block," a psychological inhibition which prevents them from doing their work. In another time it was known as lack of inspiration.

An idiot's block, therefore, is a disorder which prevents idiots from carrying out the simple tasks which we associate with their condition.

  9. Despite the Dems and the allied main stream media’s desperation to see Romney as McCain’s Veep, Mitt is clearly out, with (1) Obama doubling down on the class warfare theme (McCain’s 7 houses) and (2) McCain doubling down with ads showing the hypocrisy of Biden attacking Obama in the primaries — Romney did way more than that contra McCain.

This leaves only Govs Sarah Palin and Tim Pawlenty. Pro-abortion Ridge and Dem-Lieberman were never real considerations, despite relentless media goading. Pawlenty’s lackluster TV performances, coupled with Palin pizzazz, the primacy of oil drilling and the ticked off women/Hillary voters, does now portend a McCain/Palin checkmate on the Dems. This is so albeit the Dems and liberal media dare not mention Palin’s name, that is, everyone but…..

And if there’s any question as to Palin being uniquely positioned and able to more than nullify Biden in debate, see the excellent discussion at palinforvp.blogspot.com

    Team McCain, well done!!!

  10. Ted:

I believe you are right. Now that Obama has rejected Hillary, it would be a wise move for McCain to pick a woman as a running mate. Hillary's disappointed supporters would then have an even greater reason to vote for McCain than just showing their disaffection with Obama: they would be making history by electing the first female vice president. I would hope, however, that McCain would be able to find a running mate from a state which is not already in his pocket and which carries a little more electoral punch than does Alaska.

  11. Ever since Obama became the presumptive nominee I have thought that McCain should pick a woman. Now with the Biden pick, I'm convinced that it would be the smartest move. I (and probably most voters) don't know anything about Palin, but I think that it plays in her favor. I agree that it would be better if she were from a bigger state though.

  12. Cari,

good point but what about Carly Fiorina? Palin may be too inexperienced and not able to debate bulldog Biden. I also heard some rumblings about some minor scandal in Alaska politics involving her campaign. McCain needs to have these candidates vetted very well.

  13. I still remember in 1984 when Dukakis picked Heralding F. has his running mate President Ronald Reagan said that he believe that will be the Republican Party the first to have a woman president of vice-president. Well as he used to say: There we go again!

  14. My bad, It was Mondel and not Dukakis. I don't even remember who was Dukakis running mate.

it was Lloyd Bentsen. Remember, the debate with poor Dan Quayle? "Jack Kennedy was a friend of mine; you're no Jack Kennedy..." Ouch!

  17. The police has just picked up Gorki, in Havana.
In a few more minutes I will be posting more about this, please contact all your friends and acquaintances and let them know that Gorki is in danger.

  19. Joe, the Senator
My mom's boyfriend is from Delaware. On Satuday night I chatted with him on the phone and we were talking about Obama's pick of Biden for V.P. and how Biden is a loose cannon. He told me that Biden likes to attend 4 masses each Sunday (catching a little bit of each) so that he can be seen by many.

Then he told me a funny anecdote about the time he Biden. It turns out that they didn't live too far from each other. One day Biden was walking down the street. He comes up to my mom's boyfriend and says, "Hello. I'm Joe, the Senator," and offers his hand.

My mom's boyfriend accepted the handshake and said dryly, "And I'm Gus, the Doctor."

I suspect Romney got only a minority of cubanamerican-republican vote. He seems to have a coating the repulses me.

So what about Fidel's defense of that grosero taekwondo athlete? How low and embarrassing. Chusma.

    Pray for Gorki.
