The New York Times' Reportage on Cuba: All the Lies that Fit In Print

Roger Cohen's cover article in Sunday's New York Times Magazine is both too long and too filled with factual errors of every kind to refute it in just one post. So we shall dedicate 100 or so to it. This should see us through what remains of this year and will be a fitting coda for the 50th anniversary of Fidel Castro's enthronement, for which The New York Times, more than any other newspaper, is responsible. Indeed, only the U.S. government itself, taking its cues from The Times, played a larger role in installing Communism in Cuba.

After 50 years of unrelenting tyranny, the heirs of Herbert Matthews have handed down their final verdict on Fidel Castro:

75% Good
25% Bad

So much for those who expected a 50th anniversary apology from The New York Times for inflicting on us Herbert Matthews' "Jeffersonian democrat." Of course, there has been no apology either from The Times for concealing the Ukrainian Famine so that Stalin could consolidate his power or for dismissing reports of The Holocaust because the Ochs-Sultzbergers did not want The New York Times labelled a "Jewish newspaper."

All that is now blood under the presses, long dried and nearly forgotten. Our story, though, is still in the news and our blood has not yet congealed.

  2. But by far, the most terrifying of them all is this one, as the message in this one is clear, support the leftist movement or else:

  3. But yet some did tried to warn, not the silly misleading ramblings of the Cuban American, but serious discussions based in fact:

  6. I wouldn't expect an apology from them Manuel. They, apart from the federal government's insiting on that Fidel be given the "presidency", something he evidently did not win, as you pointed out in the post on Cuba's last elections, are the greatest contributor to Castro's rise to power. For them to admit they were no better fifty years ago than today would be impossible.

  7. I haven't finished the article yet, but early on he casually mentions the "universal health care" myth as a given fact. Gives the reader an idea how deeply the author delved into his subject matter.

  9. Well, well, well, President Obama had the Governor of Illinois removed, because he refused to appoint Jesse Jackson Jr to Obama's senate seat.

People are going to have to realize that there is a new day in America!!

  11. Cite abcnews: the FBI says it heard Blagojevich complain he has to give this "motherf***er [the President-elect] his Senator. F*** him. For nothing? F*** him."

The Governor is heard saying he will pick another candidate "before

Secretly wiretapped, and then imprisoned a sitting United States Governor. Because the Governor dared to speak against President Obama. And he was a fellow Democrat.

Its a new day in America!!

  14. Centurion,

  15. ALBERTO DE LA CRUZ HAS GONE NUTS

You don't understand, George, what the Cuban situation needs is change. Any change. Just change. We need to change. We can't have the same, we need change. It's all about change. Change, man, change.

Logic has nothing to do with this, it has to do with change. You can't change without change. It's the change part you're missing. If you don't change, how will things change? You see? It's the magic word, the mystical spell that will fix everything; change, baby, change!

Aquí lo que cuenta es el CHANGE!

Now that is "News That's Fit to Print."

Thanks Manuel. I'm looking forward to all of them.

You must be confusing me with someone else anonymous, my commentaries are usually limited to the time frame that my jobs allow me to have, in other words, I usually comment at around this time of the late afternoon / early evening, or late at night and sometimes I do not even have free time to visit RCAB for a few days at a time, you must have been thinking of yourself.

I know that Enrique could not have been the anonymous that submitted this comment, Fantomas knows that the correct expression that we use is not "...Las buenas maneras...", we say Los buenos modales, apparently one of the American-Cubans thought he knew how to speak Spanish, probably one of the rabid Babalusianos. What will their next metida de pata be?
