What Matters Now Is the Republican Reaction to the Nominations of Holder and Craig

"Today, in Little Havana, a day prior to Obama's visit to Miami, Elián's great-uncle, Delfín González, will hold a press conference to denounce the fact that two of the principal actors in the Elián affaire, Greg Craig and Eric Holder, are now key advisers to Barack Obama. The then Assistant Attorney General Eric Holder, who planned the logistics of Elián's kidnapping, is now in charge of the advisory committee that will vet Obama's running-mate and is likely to be named Attorney General in a future Obama administration. Castro's (and Clinton's) lawyer and longtime unregistered agent of influence of the Cuban regime, Greg Craig, who ostensibly represented Elián's father and provided a "safe haven" to father and son in his own house under the surveillance of Castro agents from the Cuban Interests Section, is now Obama's advisor on Latin America and probable choice for Under-Secretary of State for Latin American Affairs." — "Elián's Never-Ending Saga," RCAB, June 20, 2008

It was never a secret that both Eric Holder and Greg Craig were destined to be political commissars in the Obama Revolution. As I predicted here Holder will be nominated for Attorney General, but Craig will not be Undersecretary of State for Latin American, not out of any consideration for the sensibilities of Cuban exiles, but because he is not-so-cordially hated by the future Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, for having dumped her in favor of Obama before she could even make her case to him. Craig, Hillary's whilom friend of 30+ years and Bill's counsel during his impeachment hearings, is the keeper of all the Clinton's dirty laundry, and Hillary will never forgive him for hanging it all (as she suspects) in Obama's camp. If State is to be Hillary's domain, then there is no place there for this slimy turncoat. Instead, Craig has been named to the more powerful position of White House counsel, where he will advice the "constitutional lawyer" on constitutional law from the unique perspective of one who has broken or twisted every law in the book.

The Republicans in the Senate, who are acting like Obama's bendover buddies even before the official beginning of the honeymoon period (really Obama's political career has been one endless honeymoon), have already signalled that they will give Holder a pass for "Pardongate" at his confirmation hearings and none has raised any objection to Greg Craig. I am not concerned about Democrats acting like Democrats. What concerns me is Republicans acting like Democrats. If Holder's lawless behavior during the seizure of Elián González is not even a beep on the radar anymore and Craig's representation of Fidel Castro in the Elián affaire and in a host of other legal matters is deemed to fall within the scope of lawyer-client privilege, then it can only be because the Republicans do not want to squander their scant political capital on behalf of our community by raising those questions.

During the Bush presidency, Cuban-American demanded nothing of the man whom they made president and received hearty thanks and nothing else in return. Cuban exiles will never enlist in the Democratic party nor should they: exercising that kind of "leverage" is comparable to that which was exerted by the hangman in his public duties, except that we would be both victim and executioner. There is nowhere for us to go outside the Republican party. Therefore, our efforts should be concentrated in the next four years in demanding the respect which we have earned from the GOP as its most faithful constituents. If it is not forthcoming, then we should become passive spectators in its descent into bipartisanship. Till, finally, when all differences have been erased or muted between the major parties, we can expect (or at least hope) for the birth of a new political dispensation that will replace the incestuous melding of Democrats and Republicans. The end of civilization does not exclude the possibility of its re-birth, though the pall may not be easily dissipated, perhaps not even in our lifetime.

I just saw on MSNBC that Eric Holder has just asked Reno to come help him organize the Justice Department after Obama takes office.

As if they could if they wanted to. We dont want Cuban immigrants in our party, we dont need them. And neither does the republican party, with Indiana, Virginia, Colorado, North Carolina in the comfortably in the fold.

  4. John Longfellows assessment:

I will give Obama a few more appointments. But it is becoming quite clear, that he is becoming a vehicle for the Clinton adminstration. Somethng was said, or an agreement was reached when Hillary pulled out of the race. Because there are too many Clinton/Gore foot-soldiers assuming the levers of power in D.C.

If Janet Reno will in fact have a dominate voice in the direction of Obama's Justice Department, then it will confirm my suspicion.

The respect that you are asking from the republican party will not be forthcoming. To give such respect, will run counter to their anti-spanish immigrant, english-only message, which they must foist upon the base in order to take back the nation to please their southern-base. Mccain could not do so, because he has an immigrant daughter, and that would go against his very being. If Mccain had been able to do so, there would be a President Mccain, rather then President Obama. Particuarly in my state, where our republican Governor, Mitch Danials, carried Indiana by 30 points, with a strong "english-only" message. While the leftist pro-immigrant Obama still won Indiana by 5 points.

Moreover, the Cuban-American community should not have to "demand" respect. To do so, would only garner "false" respect, which really isnt respect at all, now is it Cuban-Americans?

Point is, Cuban-Americans are the only group in this nation, without a major party that isnt sticking up for them. And there is not a damn thing you can do about it, now.

Worse, the Cuban-American community is vulnerable to vicious attacks by an emboldened leftist party. As the republican party has openly and bluntly sold you out.

See in the Democratic party, you cannot harm the jews, mexicans, blacks, gays, puerto ricans, native americans, unions, or any group that makes up part of the democratic base. At least not without a serious fight, which both parties tend to avoid if possible.

Cuban-Americans remain the only group of people that can be ruthlessly attacked, without penalty. We know this for sure, because President Bush told the nation so, during the 8 years of his neglectful adminstration.

It is too early to tell, but Bush may be the most harmful president in history, for the Cuban immigrant, second only to Kennedy.
In some ways, however, Bush has been as harmful as kennedy. Bush gave leftist communistic-type powers to a leftist government, i.e., Homeland Security, Patriot Act, and Wiretapping Powers. A billion dollars in tax dollars so Obama can hand to his leftist friends, without proper onservative oversight. An "accepted" government-controlled eonomic system, that happened on "Bush's" watch. A marxist climate, which will allow a nation to quickly reject all things conservative.

Worst, Bush turned a sympathetic Cuban-American community, into people that are treated with scorn on one side, and indifference (at best) on the other side. When in reality, there should have been a safe-harbor party to turn to in times of crises, like we are experiencing now. As it was the Cuban-American that casted the deciding vote in 2000, and helped usher in a decade of conservative rule, in which they thrived, i.e., supreme court judges, financial gain, and the "temporary" flourshing of conservative thought.

But much of this blame lies squarely upon the shoulders of the Cuban-Americans. Blogs are great tools to trace the history of the Cuban thinkers thoughts and musings. Looking back upon "any" Cuban-American blog, very rarely will one find any criticism of the neglectful and disrespecful Bush adminstration.

Why? That my friends, i do not have an answer for, as thankfully i am not Cuban. For if i were, there is no way in hell that i could sit back for EIGHT years, and watch my Cuban brothers and sisters die in this God-awful, bloody wet/foot, dry/foot policy in utter, and complete silence as was the case in the Cuban-American blogisphere.

Everybody eventually gets what they worked for. You Cuban immigrants worked for nothing politically, and you got nothing. And this my friends, is the worst time in our lifetime to be politically naked. You Cubans should have grabbed some clothes, while the grabbing was good. Now you must wait, for perhaps, many years.

Listen Manuel, i want to assure you that you have nothing to worry about from Obama's newly-established internal security force. I can assure you that if i become one of the "brown shirts for "Craig's, Holder's, and Reno's adminstration, that if your file comes across my desk, that i will waive off the leftist dogs of wars. Of course, i can not make the same guarantees for some other Cuban militant immigrants that wondering the Cuban blogisphere.

  25. Well, i have been up since 3 this morning, and i am getting sleepy. But i just wanted to let you know Manuel, that Reno doesnt need Senate confirmation to be a key advisor. Neither karl rove, nor james carville had senate confirmation.

Truthfully, i wonder how much power Holder will really have. As it is quite clear now, that the Clinton/Gore team are the ones in charge, and not Obama. And in fact, Holder may actually be Reno's puppet, as by designed.

In fact, it looks to me, as the only one in the Obama adminstration who will give a fair shake to the Cuban immigrant, is actually Obama himself. Meaning that Obama appears to be the most reasonable one of the bunch.

As i told you before Manuel, it isnt the President that matters, it is the staff that assembles around him.

And in the case of Obama. The Clinton/Gore team is assembling some very dangerous anti-Cuban immigrant foes around Obama.

Who knows, maybe the powers that be dont want Obama to make any positive changes towards Cuba, and they want to keep a good eye on him. Or maybe, they want to be in a position to inflict great damage upon the Cuban exile community.

Whatever the case may be. This Obama staff is a very ominuous sign for the Cuban exile community. The future damage that they will inflict upon the Cuban community will negatively affect the said community for generations to come.

Goodnight, and lets await tomorrow morning, to see what this leftist government has so genereously bestowed upon the broken and betrayed Cuban immigrant community.

  44. Manuelo when will you have your first suicide here on this blog and who do you think should go for it

Florida Teen Live-Streams His Suicide Online
Abraham Biggs, 19, Was Egged On by Fellow Bloggers, Cops Say
    By EMILY FRIEDMAN
    Nov. 21, 2008 —

A Florida teenager who used a webcam to live-stream his suicide Wednesday was reportedly encouraged by other people on the Web site, authorities told ABCNews.com.

"People were egging him on and saying things like 'go ahead and do it, faggot,' said Wendy Crane, an investigator at the Broward County Medical Examiner's office.

Abraham Biggs, 19, of Pembroke Pines, Fla., had been blogging on an online body-building message board and had linked to his page on Justin.tv, a live video streaming Web site, where the camera rolled as he overdosed on prescription pills, according to Crane.

Biggs, who had reportedly been discussing his suicide on the forums, also posted a suicide note on a body-building forum, which has since been taken down, in which he wrote, "I hate myself and I hate living."

"I have let everyone down and I feel as though I will never change or never improve," Biggs wrote in the posting. "I am in love with a girl and I know that I am not good enough for her. I have come to believe that my life has all been meaningless. I keep trying and I keep failing. I have thought about and attempted suicide many times in the past."

The video and blog postings have since been removed from the sites, but Crane, who has seen both, said that at first viewers thought the suicide was a hoax.

"The bloggers said that Biggs had threatened to kill himself before and had faked it, so at first they didn't believe him," said Crane. "Gradually, as you read the blog further into the day the bloggers start commenting on how Biggs isn't moving."

Crane said comments on the thread included an exchange about whether the image of Biggs' motionless body was a still photograph or a video, and eventually resulted in one of the site's visitors calling the police, who tracked down the teen through his computer IP address.

According to Wired magazine, online viewers watching the video ranged from "OMG" -- Internet slang for oh my god -- and LOL -- an abbreviation for laughing out loud.

    Blog Posts
On a blog where Biggs wrote about his suicidal thoughts, which has since been removed, commenters wrote, "hahaha hahahahha hahahahahah ahhaha." Wired reported that someone else wrote: "Instant Darwinism ..." to which a fellow commenter wrote: "f**king a nicely put." Others called the teen a "coward," "faggot" and a "dick."

In the Web stream, Crane said viewers saw a piece of a door frame -- which had splintered from the police kicking in the teen's bedroom door -- hit Biggs, who is curled up on his bed and facing away from the camera.

"Then you see a police officer go in and check on him, and then the EMS pronounced him dead," said Crane.

Biggs was pronounced dead at 3:30 p.m. Nov. 19 -- about 12 hours after he had begun blogging about his suicide.

The official cause of death was suicide combined with drug toxicity. Crane said that benzodiazepines and opiates were found near the body, but a blood toxicology to quantify just how much Biggs consumed is still under way.

Crane said that at least one of the prescription drugs was in Biggs' name.

Michael Seibel, the CEO of Justin.tv, posted a blog entry on the site titled "A Moment of Silence."

"Justin.tv staff would like to take a moment to recognize and reflect upon the tragedy that occurred within our community today," wrote Seibel. "We respect the privacy of the broadcaster and his family during this challenging time."

Reached by telephone, Biggs' father, Abraham Biggs Sr., told ABCNews.com that he was shocked to learn of his son's death.

"He was a good kid. Everyone knows him," said Biggs. "We live together and everything was fine -- I'm so surprised."

Biggs' father was not home at the time of his son's suicide, and the father told ABCNews.com that he was not aware that his son used Justin.tv.

Biggs had struggled with depression, according to his father, and had been prescribed medication for bipolar disorder. Benzodiazepine is commonly prescribed as a sleep aid or an anti-anxiety medication.

Even so, Biggs had been "doing better," according to his father and had been attending daily classes at Broward College, where he was pursing a career as a paramedic.

Internet Provides Outlet to Suffer in Public
"I am upset that Justin.tv streamed this live," said Biggs. "I have not seen it, and I do not intend to look at it.

"There seems to be a lack of control as to what people put out on the Internet," he said. "There's a lot of garbage out there that should not be, and unfortunately, this was allowed to happen."

David Griner, a social media strategist for Luckie & Company, said that while public deaths are not new, online chatrooms provide an especially accessible forum for those debating suicide.

"The social Web tends to create a sideshow atmosphere, like public executions in the 1700s," said Griner. "The anonymity and lack of personal connection bring out the worst in people."

Griner points out that there have been several other online suicides, and some have been faked as well.

In February 2008 a girl who identified herself only as "90 Day Jane" wrote an anonymous blog chronicling the days leading up to her death. The blog turned out to be a hoax, and "Jane" later described it as an "art project."

The United Kingdom had an online suicide in March 2007, when 42-year-old Kevin Whitrick hanged himself while others watched. According to the BBC, some onlookers tried to stop him while others urged him on.

"The explosion of high-speed Internet access in the past few years has made it so that almost anyone can broadcast a live video in front of a global audience," said Griner. "It's impossible for sites like Justin.tv to monitor everything that's going on, so that puts the burden on the community to help stop bad things from happening."

Griner believes that those who encourage suicidal people are simply a sad reality of an unrestricted World Wide Web. Even so, some potential suicides are prevented on the Internet as well.

"You'll always have the morbid jerks who yell 'Jump!' when someone's on a rooftop, and you'll always have people threatening suicide in a public venue," said Griner. "And while it's easy to focus on the abundance of bloodthirsty trolls online, the bright side is that the Internet also gives more decent people the opportunity to intervene and try to save a life."

"Most times, they just need someone to talk to, and the Internet is the only forum they have."

TKO John, well done , Sir, Do not stop now, keep the pressure on him , beat him on the floor until he commits suicide

  62. Anon,

Thank you, but im starting to feel a sense of remorse. I mean, i knew he was close to going over the edge, but i just kept going.
I guess it was that return of "Janet Reno the Elian deporter" post that sent him to the hardware store to fetch some rope, and a footstool.

Seriously, i am starting to wonder if Manuel offed himself. You know, in Miami, i learned that Cubans have a reputation for offing themselves if they dont get their way with their women. So i would imagine, that a new African communist President of America bossing the Cuban immigrant around is just to much for the Cuban immigrant to bare.

But what i cant figure out, is how come Manuel couldnt wait until Jan 20th, before he offed himself. Manuel always did have a reputation for being dishonest. So i guess he lied to us again.

Shame on Manuel, shame on you!!

  63. It's a question of will the Republicans start acting like Republicans and stop bending over backwards, like you pointed out Manuel. Right now, I don't see that happening. They're so afraid of being called "racist" for not agreeing with "the One" that they will placate him in any capacity. It's a very grim outlook for the GOP and Cuban-Americans.
