Will Henry Now Stop Merchandising "Che" T-Shirts?

I am not interested in the subject of Henry's "Proud Member of the Miami Mafia" t-shirts. However, if he is going to banish them from his blogstore because non-Cubans consider them in bad taste or demeaning to his "niggas" (as he puts it), then he should also stop selling his "Che Is Still Dead" t-shirts. It really doesn't matter if Henry's t-shirts are pro- or anti-Che. He is still profitting personally from the "Che" brand. I don't believe that Jews have ever capitalized on Hitler's. They could have legally claimed marketting rights to his brand (still popular in Arab countries, among others), along with royalties from the sale of Mein Kampf and whatever residual income might still be generated by his estate, in token restitution for the crimes committed against them; but they rightly consider such monies as bloodgelt and would have nothing to do with it. The money generated from the sale of "Che" t-shirts is also blood money. No Cuban should wish to have anything to do with it, much less profit from that monster's legacy.

The sale of "Miami Mafia" t-shirts by a Miami Cuban shows poor judgment and bad taste. The sale of Che t-shirts by one who otherwise condemns the commercialization of the Che brand (by everybody except himself, that is) is the most flagrant hypocrisy imaginable. But it does illustrate better than anything else the difference between "principle" and "principal."

I believe that the following comments on the same post refer to you personally:

"Then another blogger, commenting on NGOs that receive federal funds earmarked for free Cuba activities that are being investigated for fraud uses the expression "Miami Mafia" referring to the alleged crooks. Now this blogger claims to be against fidel castro yet he has no qualms about using castro's own vocabulary to disparage the entire exile community. And to add insult to injury he posted images of the t-shirts I designed. One is left with the impression that all of the groups that receive federal funds from USAIDs Cuba program are crooked and furthermore that it's a "Miami" problem. Not only that, I'm personally hurt because this person, who I've met personally and have been very friendly with, uses my design for the exact opposite purpose that I had in mind when I designed it. [...]

"The blogger who did this perhaps should have paid more attention to Michael Corleone in the movie.

"Don't ever take sides with anyone against the family again. Ever. [...]

"When I get home, I'll be taking the Miami Mafia T-shirts down from my online store. I thought I could disarm the expression like blacks do with the word they call themselves but don't permit others to call them. I was wrong. One of my fellow "n______" has turned on me."

  18. El doctor Darsi Ferrer se desencadena

Lean esto con suma atencion. Very Important. please discuss

  22. Dr. Darsi Ferrer's statement is obviously too difficult to understand for the commentator that has copied and pasted it here. Dr. Ferrer is clearly indicating that his suggestions to those of us who are Cuban expats and registered voters in the U.S.A., is not to fall for the rhetoric of candidate Obama, whom he calls to task when he states:

Clearly Dr. Ferrer is more than capable of seeing beyond the rhetorical veil being employed by candidate Obama, and just as clearly, the doctor emphatically demands that we who are going to vote in the general election in November and who care for our fellow Cubans and for the future of Cuba, MUST demand that the conditions that are currently in place concerning Cuba's government willingness to abide by those preconditions, especially concerning the observance and respect of human rights, must be paramount towards any engagement between the two countries that would seek to end the embargo as it currently exists.

Given that the commentator that cut and pasted Dr. Ferrer's statement has purported to support Obama's rhetorical offer of dialogue WITHOUT demanding that Cuba's tyranny abide by any pre-requirements, I find it safe to believe that either the commentator has changed its mind, or did not quite grasped the meaning of Dr. Ferrer's statement.

Have you noticed Rick how I do not spend my days searching through your posts to criticize every petty, parochial, trifling post you publish? Have you noticed how even your own readers have stated, time and again, that you should stop with your petty attacks on babalu?

just how much do you know about me, Rick, as a person? Because i know quite a bit about you and I leave you alone to spew your hate day in and day out. Youve got enough problems already, i just dont understand why you must keep searching for more.

Do us and your readers a favor and, if your not going to do anything to help with the Cuba situation, just leave us the hell alone. Its bad enough to have to deal with serious issues every hour of every day, but to have to expend even a second of our time on your bigotry and hatred is really a waste of time that could be spent doing something productive.

How many more times you gonna make me take the high road on this, Rick?

I'm glad you asked. It's you and Henry and George. Great, I'm glad we got that straight.

As far as the rest the "high road" that you take, Prieto, you and and your boys must have pretty low, "high" standards. From the vulgar, crass language to the thuggish behavior against other Cuban-Americans, let alone me, you guys are at the low end of the Respectable Scale that most of the rest of the Cuban-Amercian community regularly exceeds.

You and your friends there at babalu are, quite simply, a disgrace to the CA community and you give the decent, hard-working, and respectable people of that community a bad name.

Do me a favor, Prieto. Don't spend any effort or time over here. Don't waste a friggin minute at SFDB when you could be spending your time cussing out liberals, photoshopping and giving the finger to whomever disagrees with you. Same to your bros. Stay away.

I've never seen anyone wearing a Hitler t-shirt with "with the internationally recognized symbol of negation or rejection (a red circle with a red slash diagonally across it)."

    Why is that?

I suppose because nobody wants to have Hitler's image across his chest, next to his skin. The general revulsion for him is greater than any personal statement that might be made by wearing his image even with some mark of negation.

Shouldn't that also be the case with "Che" Guevara?

    Or Fidel Castro?

Remember, also, that Henry was selling the t-shirts, which is worse than wearing them. The commercialization of the "Che" brand for one's personal benefit is alike censurable whether done by one who supports Che, opposes Che, or is indifferent to Che (as are most merchants of his t-shirts).

But there are people out there who read this blog meticulously, looking for opportunities to say that we are hypocrites. One blogger in particular who has an unhealthy obsession with us (he has nothing better to do than read the writings of people he despises) apparently searched our archives for a post in which we were critical of Sharpton. Here's the excerpt of our post from April of last year:

I wonder how Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, the NAACP, Pastor's for Peace, Harry Belafonte, Danny Glover, Charles Rangel, etal, would react if an Afr waa ican-American man were taken from his home, tried secretly and sentenced to jail time for "dangerousness"?
The blogger in question dismayed by the fact that we posted the news of the Sharpton protest with "nary a whisper about [our] past outrage ."

He concludes by saying: "It's a good thing, especially in this case, that babalu's perceptions of certain groups of people are, well, totally wrong."

This blogger, who is obsessed with telling other bloggers what they should write and how they should write it is the only one that's totally wrong.

In the past Sharpton has carried water for the castro regime, of that there can be no doubt. In this 2003 Slate piece, Sharpton's views on foreign policy are examined:

After visiting Cuba in 2000, Sharpton met Fidel Castro and called him "one of the three most impressive people I have ever met in my life." Sharpton says they had a "talk about the human rights violations—of which I personally saw none." He argues that the United States has "continued to demonize Castro at the expense of good, sound foreign policy."
Now, while Sharpton was in Cuba not seeing any human rights violations, Dr. Oscar Elias Biscet was already rotting in a Cuban prison. The same Biscet that the press releases about Sharpton's protest refer to. When Sharpton was in Cuba not seeing any human rights violations, Jorge Luis Garcia Perez “Antunez” was rotting in a Cuban prison. Antunez' sister Bertha was at Sharpton's side on Monday.

All of this is to say that Sharpton was wrong about Cuba's human rights record before and he's right about it now. What changed his mind? I can only speculate. But we were right to point out his hypocrisy before and we're right welcome his criticisms of the human rights record of Cuba now.

I don't know why that's so hard to understand. It's a historical fact that black civil rights leaders in America have bought into and helped spread castroite propaganda in America. This development with Sharpton is a welcome one.

That doesn't mean that I agree with Sharpton on anything else. It means that we at least agree that Cuba is a violator of human rights. And that fits in with our mission of portraying Cuba as it is.

Here's a little message for the self-appointed Pope of the bloggers

You see, that is the problem, Manuel. For whatever reason, when I first questioned you about Batista you simply panicked. I never said Batista did not posses admirable qualities. But fear got the best of you and you instead decided to forfeit and hand me an easy victory.

That window of opportunity I offered you, I am sorry to say, has closed.

And I see you continue beating that dead "Fidelista sin Fidel" horse. Come on, Manuel, you have more imagination than that. You don't see me calling you "Fidel sin Fidelistas" even though the tile fits you like a glove. It would be too easy, too lazy of me to go such a route.

Let go of the fear, Manuel. I am not here to hurt you, I am here to help you. You and I have so much in common, and yet, you become immediately defensive and reduce yourself to making vulgar remarks.

Let's work together, Manuel. I am older than you, I have been around longer than you, I have seen things you have only read and heard about. With my knowledge, and your writing skills, we can do so much together.

Funny how Rick proclaims that Babalu's perception of people is sometimes wrong, after admitting that the same blog recognizes Sharpton for his stance on Cuban prisoners. Our acknowledgment of Sharpton left Rick in no other position but to find some other reason to criticize this blog. If the guy actually practiced what he preaches and acknowledged HIS past misjudgments (of which there are plenty), then he can rightfully point fingers. Of course, we all know that will never happen, so we're left with Rick (and his adoring Babalu-haters) doing the Pembroke Pines-two step.
