I am not interested in the subject of Henry's "Proud Member of the Miami Mafia" t-shirts. However, if he is going to banish them from his blogstore because non-Cubans consider them in bad taste or demeaning to his "niggas" (as he puts it), then he should also stop selling his "Che Is Still Dead" t-shirts. It really doesn't matter if Henry's t-shirts are pro- or anti-Che. He is still profitting personally from the "Che" brand. I don't believe that Jews have ever capitalized on Hitler's. They could have legally claimed marketting rights to his brand (still popular in Arab countries, among others), along with royalties from the sale of Mein Kampf and whatever residual income might still be generated by his estate, in token restitution for the crimes committed against them; but they rightly consider such monies as bloodgelt and would have nothing to do with it. The money generated from the sale of "Che" t-shirts is also blood money. No Cuban should wish to have anything to do with it, much less profit from that monster's legacy.
The sale of "Miami Mafia" t-shirts by a Miami Cuban shows poor judgment and bad taste. The sale of Che t-shirts by one who otherwise condemns the commercialization of the Che brand (by everybody except himself, that is) is the most flagrant hypocrisy imaginable. But it does illustrate better than anything else the difference between "principle" and "principal."

Your refusal to answer has done you great harm in my opinion. Why? Because you are not anonymous on the internet. Your name is on the masthead and you are the sole arbiter of what is written on this blog. It is your unique, educated and passionate voice on Cuba that makes this weblog the valuable resource that it is.
If somebody asked me the year I was born it would be an easy answer. But in your case, you've refused to answer, giving the facile response of "people are free to think that I was born in 1906 or 1960, or any time before, after or in-between." That is not an answer. The year a person was born is not a matter of belief; it is a matter of fact. Either you were born in 1960, or you weren't.
That date is of great import and begs several more questions to be asked of you: Were you born in Cuba? When did you arrive in the United States? Were you born in the United States? Who were your primary sources for the information on Cuba that you pass along to us as though it were personal experience? Were you born under Fidel's rule and escaped along with your family? If so, when did you arrive in the United States, and how did your family, affiliated with Batista's government as you have claimed, manage to survive in situ without casualties?
I believe that you know that responding in the affirmative will open the floodgate regarding your self-appointed role as the pundit and pontificator on Cuba, all written as though you'd been an active participant in events up to and including the time Cuba was overrun by the Castro gang. If you were born in 1960, none of that would be true and your knowledge would be, at best, second-hand. It would throw into doubt everything you have written. Because, as I've discovered from reading almost all of it, you write as though you were there in the glory days before Castro, during the Batista presidency.
Manuel, you pride yourself on having a weblog where democracy reigns. Yet that unfettered discussion is stopped in its tracks by a simple question you refuse to answer. Once again I have to ask you: Do we take your refusal to answer as a silent "yes" or can we expect you to give a definitive answer?

I do remember the events leading up to the revolution and my family's escape from Cuba in mid-1959. Castro changed my life forever, just as he changed yours and so many others. An impressionable seven-year old boy tends to remember events that turn his comfortable world tospy turvy. I don't need anyone to tell me the events first-hand. I actually lived them.

Actually, Serafin, Manuel and I (my name is Ramon) agree on almost everything that has to do with Cuba. What Manuel doesn't agree with, is having someone like me challenging the minutia. Manuel likes to be right on everything, down to the last period in his posts.
And where I disagree with Manuel is in his arrogant and bully tactics. The way he treats visitors like Fantomas, and the perfect example, what he did to you today when you told him you were on his side and he could not resist the temptation to call you a Fidelista sin Fidel in his response.
Manuel is your typical schoolyard bully. And like all bullies, his behavior consists of him acting out on some hidden deep seeded issue he harbors inside. These issues are like demons that eventually Manuel must face if he ever hopes to lead a normal and happy life.
I am only trying to help him face his demons. He may hate me now, but soon, he will thank his God that I came around to lead him out of darkness.

You are free to disagree with me, Angel. Perhaps, on a whole, I am wrong and I have misinterpreted the classic and telltale signs of a bully that Manuel has exhibited on this blog.
I have not, however, misinterpreted his responses to me, which you have read for yourself. Where I approached him respectfully and courteously on a delicate topic, Manuel only replied with accusations and vulgarities.
Manuel does not like to be wrong, and he likes it less when it is pointed out to him. And, since he cannot outwit me, or out-articulate me, he has become extremely frustrated.
You see, Manuel not only wants to be right all the time, he also wants to have everyone tell him how right he is. If you do not comply, he will insult you, call you stupid, or in my case, hide.
In my book, that is a bully, Angel.

Ramón, perhaps in what you consider a noble endeavor you may have failed to notice that your approach was disrespectful to Manuel, I certainly perceived it to be as such, only Manuel can speak for himself, but I am willing to guess that if you recognize that flaw and sincerely apologize to him , he will more than likely extend you all the courtesies that he has always extended me, even when I have been less than cordial.

Angel, unfortunately, there is no way to tell Manuel the truth without it bothering him. I tried, knowing my chances were slim, and failed.

But neither I, nor you, can make him do that. He has to come to that decision. He has to face his own demons.
