Babalú's New Flag

It was a busy night and a busy morning for Val Prieto. His inbox is bulging with e-mails from readers and fellow bloggers indignant at George Moneo's desecration of the Cuban flag yesterday on Babalú. The satellites and even some of the "magnificent cadres" have expressed their disapproval and urged him to take down the offensive caricature. For once, however, Val has taken a stand against censorship. The hateful pastiche of the Cuban flag will stand. "The New Cuban Flag," as George dubbed it, is now Babalú's flag and Val will go down with his ship defending it.

So, Babalunians, stand at attention and salute your new flag, which expresses the contempt and hatred which Val & Co. feel for Cuba and the Cuban people.

  1. Who is worse the monkey with the chain, George Mono, or Val the organ grinder (is that comep---- in Cuban)?

  2. Definitely the organ grinder. He's been known to spank the monkey on occasion.

  3. How much reefer do you smoke in a day? If you can't figure out the meaning of that image, you are either mentally deficient or simply looking for any reason, grasping at any straw that will allow you to lambast your perceived enemies.

The silliness of these two posts is beyond absurd.

    Get a grip, man.

Do you require the image to be explained to you in detail (i.e. spoon fed) or would you rather continue concocting ridiculous, absurd interpretations regarding a desecration which you yourself constructed.

This is Babalú's modus operandi. When Val outed Killcastro, Val's reaction was to deny that he had outed him. When George desecrated the Cuban flag, his reaction was to contend that he didn't. The evidence is there for all to see, yet they still have the effrontery to disavow responsibility for what they have done.

  5. The responsibility for shouting fire in a crowded theater when there is none rests with you, sir.

Do not attempt to construct a controversy where there is none. I believe you are a bit more intelligent than that. This is simply nonsensical and your efforts come out of malice and malice alone. Please don't shed any crocodile tears about defending our beloved flag. Your intentions have nothing to do with defending the Cuban flag - which was never desecrated - and everything to do with creating a situation to benefit yourself. I suppose hanging the flag upside down - a known sign of distress - would enrage you as well?

    No, I didn't think so.

    Next please . . .

  6. So the desecrated flag stands, is there not something in the 1940 constitution that explains verbatim how our flag should be treated? how desecrating the flag is a crime? now the Babalunians are criminal desecrators of the flag of their ancestors, our flag was wrought with blood, it's not a joke.

  7. Anonnymous 12:17

Actually, the Cuban flag cannot be hung upside down, since it doesn't have an "upside" or a "downside".
When the Cuban flag is hoisted with two points of the star upwards it means that the nation is at war.
Now, hanging the flag as Biscet famously did, with the traingle to the bottom IS NOT a sign of distress.
It was a sign (invented by him) of protest. It violated the rules of hanging the Cuban flag, and assuming that you are not very familiar with the dissidents in Cuba, I'am sorry to break the news: it was not very well received by other dissidents.

The same is valid for the American flag when hoisted with the field of stars in the lower part ONLY AS a signal of distress IN EXTREME SITUATIONS(even if to the best of my knowledge not a single Armed Forces unit that has used that signal) it instead has been used in that fashion by a whole conglomerate of people protesting the US policies, almost always by the same that end their parades by burning the American flag.

  8. Since no desecration occurred relating to that image, there is nothing to "stand."

The desecration which has occurred came at the hands of one Manuel Tellechea, who sees fit to use the flag for his own personal benefit in an absurd blog feud fueled by his own narcissism and the need to lead his weak-willed followers like some sort of "Jim Jonesesque" cult leader.

    Need I say it again?

It is a widely accepted sign of distress internationally. I'm not going to bother banging my head into a brick wall if you and yours are too thick-skinned to get that. And don't ever question the familiarity of someone you don't know with regards to the dissident movement.

I have done and continue to do my fair share - so - in a word - go fuck yourself. I have lost too much to have some jackass lecture ME about this sort of thing.

    Next please . . .

PS: sorry about the profanity but that really set me off.

The responsibility for desecrating the Cuban flag lies with you, though you tried at first to blame a "recent Cuban exile" for it, as pro forma at Babalú.

Pointing attention to the desecration, while refraining from reproducing and compounding the wrong, is what honorable men do when faced with the work of ruffians.

How this "situation benefits [me]" I do not know, unless you mean that by exposing your disrespect for the Cuban flag and Val's indifference to it I am increasing the world's stock of truth and helping others to see through the colossal fraud that is Babalú.

  17. First of all, this isn't George. In fact, I'm guessing George is a bit smarter than me in this respect - in that he realizes there is no need to even respond to this sort of chicanery.

It simply shocks me to the core, to see how much energy is wasted on this sight each and every day, while 11 million people are wallowing away under the boot heel of a sick dictatorship. If you spent a quarter as much time working towards getting the word out about what's going on in Cuba, perhaps the regime's end would arrive that much quicker.

Instead, what we see here are statements urging folks to insert foreign objects into their rectums - when all the while - Cuban prison guards are actually doing that - and much more - on the Pearl of the Antilles.

I'll say it again. . . the desecration perpetrated against the Cuban flag has been carried out by the manager of this blog and those commenting on the last two posts.

You have perversely transformed a noble and true visual commentary on the Cuban nightmare into a scandal to add oxygen to a fire you seek to make larger and larger each and every day in a bid to rule like an emperor over your little internet dominion readers. That YOU would use the flag for such a selfish reason is a desecration.

I myself shall remain anonymous, as I am not about to make an absurd blog feud even larger. Hell, I shouldn't even be commenting at all. Deep down, I know it achieves nothing and is simply feeding your bizarre little crusade of perversion and twisting of truth.

What angers me even more is the fact that I have a feeling - although I am certainly not sure and will reserve ultimate judgement - that nary a reader here has ever risked their lives to aid in the regime's end. I may very well be completely incorrect on that assumption but, it sickens me to see all this misplaced indignation coming from armchair quarterbacks who have quite possibly never even been to the island (I realize that isn't everyone) of which they are becoming so indignant over.

It's just all bloody perverse and twisted.

OK, George, it's duly noted that anonymous is not you. Satisfied, George?

So "it simply shocks [you] to the core, to see how much energy is wasted on this sight [sic] each and every day?" Well, that must mean that you are a regular reader. Pray, what keeps you coming here, "each and every day?" Could it be because this blog is independent and beholden to no one? Could it be because it is not afraid to take on anyone who does not "respect Cuba or the Cuban people's right to be free," as its motto says?

Or do you just come here in order to learn your latest foibles or if something written by you has merited my attention, as so many other "cadres" do?

For one who "knows that [he] shouldn't be commenting here," you certainly do write a lot. I suppose that you must treasure the freedom to express yourself freely here which you do not have at Babalú. Let's not forget what happened to you the last time you posted without Val's permission and against his instructions.

I agree with you that there is definitely an anal fetish at Babalú, as demonstrated by Val's post about me today. I have not commented on that before because I thought that no one would expect anything else from anal retentives. But since it a subject that seems to interest you so much -- especially the foreign objects which are inserted in the ani of prisoners by guards in Cuba -- I will do my best to address these concerns of yours in the future.

For now, however, I am concerned with your desecration of Cuba's flag and your obstinate refusal to acknowledge and apologize for it.

  57. John McCain is known for his frequent chats with reporters and his willingness to discuss nearly any issue.

But at least one is off-limits, the Republican presidential nominee suggested Wednesday: Viagra.

"I certainly do not want to discuss that issue," the Arizona senator said aboard his "Straight Talk Express" bus in Ohio when asked about his views on health insurance covering the medication.

But the off-message topic was raised from a member of McCain’s own team: national co-chairwoman Carly Fiorina, who had said earlier women often express frustration over the fact many health insurance plans cover Viagra but not birth control medication.

"Let me give you a real, live example, which I've been hearing a lot about from women. There are many health insurance plans that will cover Viagra but won't cover birth control medication. Those women would like a choice," she said Monday.

A McCain spokesman later said the Arizona senator supported competition in the healthcare industry, presumably allowing women to nix policies that cover Viagra but not their specific needs.

Election Center: Where McCain stands on healthcare

McCain has voted against Senate measures that sought to require insurance companies to cover birth control medication.

The exchange also followed a town-hall event during which McCain touched upon the abortion issue, a matter that traditionally hasn’t animated him on the stump.

After praising President Bush’s efforts to expand faith-based programs, McCain pivoted: “I also think that we should do everything that we can, and one of those in my view is respect for human life both born and the unborn.”

  85. I just posted in the previous thread my response to George at Babalu, which for the sake of expediency, for the convenience of the readers and with the anticipated courtesy of Manuel, I replicate here:

GM: My intent when I posted the image was -- and is -- as clear as gin: the image is a metaphor for the condition Cuba is in today. Period.

AG: I was and I am very well aware of the metaphorical nature of the graphic and what it purportedly represents. You must be aware that there are many subjects, not the least of which is national pride and its representation by national symbols, that are considered "off limits" or beyond the realm of the common, certainly you are aware that even a small flag represents a nation and its people, you must know that any violation(s) or desecration(s) of such symbol(s) in any way, shape or form may and have caused nations to declare wars against one another, it is due to these reasons that national flags are only desecrated when provocation for war is the intention of the perpetrators, or when disdain and hatred of the nation and the people that a national flag represents is at the heart of the insulting violators. You get offended every time you see any representation of Che Guevara, yet the desecration of the national symbol of Cuba and its people does not seem to bother you in the least. Certainly there are many other alternatives that could have been employed to convey the message that you purport to have tried to convey It is common practice to place a disclaimer within any given presentation, whichever its nature, to clarify the intention(s) of the author(s) for anyone who may possibly take offense at whatever such presentation is intended to represent, but such escape clause is not customarily applied to national flags.

GM: This is nothing more than a cheap and manipulative attempt to drum up hysteria and controversy where none exists. If you or your friends are too obtuse to get the message, so be it. The image stays and my message now is the same as was when I posted it.

AG: There is no manipulation whatsoever at the heart of this issue, there is however, a serious affront to the national symbol of my native Cuba and to all Cubans, whether in Cuba, or anywhere else in the world. You seem to prefer to use contemptuous innuendo to attack me for having warned you as to the potentially negative consequences of your act of desecration, so be it, shoot the messenger and by all means, do not take the time to understand the message. Tthat appears to be more the norm than the exception with you. Your own words prove you guilty of your crime, you refuse to do what you should do for the good of the cause of democracy in Cuba, you choose to give the tyranny in power in Cuba another propaganda tool to use against all freedom loving Cubans and our friends and allies throughout the world, you choose to insult all Cubans whom you apparently believe are beneath you, especially our brothers and sisters within the island prison who suffer daily at the hands of the tyranny and most if not all of the recent arrivals, you coincidentally allege that it is one of those recently arrived Cubans who is the original author of the graphic, I doubt the veracity of such allegation, but there is a clear pattern of superiority complex to your statements, the members of the tyranny in Cuba suffer from the same affliction. You sir are an affront to Cuba and to all of us Cubans, you sir are a shameful example of what takes place when people allow bad influences from unpatriotic citizens of another nation to permeate their once proud national identity, you sir have been negatively influenced by those who posses no compunction whatsoever about using their own flag for underwear, placing a national symbol in the nether regions of their human anatomy. You sir, should immediately cease and desist from insulting the nation, the symbols, the nationals, the expatriates and anything and everything that represents our beloved Cuba.

GM: Angel, we live in America. I still have the right to post this, just as much as you have the right to disagree with me posting it. You have a lot of crust to think you can come here and tell me what to write or post, demanding an apology for some manufactured offense. Our blog has a variety of opinions, some more pointed than others, but we consistently, unambiguously and unashamedly disseminate a pro-America, anti-castro, anti-communist message here. If that message, or how we deliver it, bothers you that much, go elsewhere. I certainly won't shed any tears.

AG: No George, we live in the United States of America, from the furthest, northernmost reaches of Canada's territory to the furthermost reaches of Chile's and Argentina's territories and all other nations of America in between, we live in America, all of those nations citizens and residents live in America George, not the Illusion that you call America, another bad influence that you have assimilated from misinformed and misguided citizens of the U.S.A. You DO NOT have the right to desecrate the national symbol of Cuba and the Cubans it represents, living and dead. I did not tell you what you have the right to write or post, or what you do not have the right to write or post, I advised you as to the potentially damaging consequences of your act of desecration would be for your personal reputation, as well as, for the reputation of Babalu Blog, certainly you must be aware that there are consequences to our actions and words, freedom of speech allows any idiot to falsely yell "fire" at a theatre but with consequences for the perpetrator. You seem to lack or not want to avail yourself of logic, common sense and linear thought process. Your Blog (your own words, I was under the impression that it was Valentin Prieto's Blog) used to have a variety of opinions, mostly from commentators, most of whom have been banished and banned from commenting in the most outrageous displays of profanity laden derogatory disrespect and affront to all modicums of civility, so much for believing in the democratic and civil process. What you claim to be the core of the message that Babalu purports to disseminate, curiously does not indicate pro-Cuba and/or pro-Cuban, I guess all the claims to supporting and advocating for the cause of a free, democratic and civil Cuban republic, as well as, the claims of support for the Cuban people are not included, or perhaps your impression of what makes a true Cuban is nothing but a reflection of what you see every time you look in the mirror, if that is the case, I will unequivocally state that I want no part or parcel of that image that purportedly would represent what you apparently believe makes a real or ideal Cuban, I prefer to stay as I am, a true Cuban among the multitudes of Cubans, with all of our different characteristics that serve all of us so well to enrich our culture and civil pride. To finalize my statement, I would like to offer you this tip, when you offer others with whom you disagree to go elsewhere, you are too late already, the echo chamber that Babalu has become speaks for itself. Enough said.

    que su envidia lo derrota

    De Babalú lo botaron
    por ser un viejo baboso

    por ser un tipo asqueroso

Y el no lo puede aceptar

Y se vino aqui a llorar
    con Vana y con Calabaza

  100. The Babalunians, or, specifically, Val, Alberto and Claudia, are trying desperately to replicate this democratic forum by making the same stupid comments over and over again on a post dedicated to me, ignoring that RCAB is the work of dozens of commenters and filled with endless variety of opinion.

It is interesting to note that no one criticized us on that thread but the Babalunians cadres themselves and only a fraction of them.

Meanwhile, hundreds of new readers discovered this blog by googling my name, which was mentioned a record five or six times in one day on Babalú. God knows that I never sought such publicity, but Val has foisted it on me and I can do nothing about it but welcome a new contingent of readers from Babalú and wish them a happy rendezvous with the truth.

Leave Claudia alone, she deserves a tremendous amount of credit for taking it upon herself to fight for our cause and carry such a burden, which she very well could have chosen to ignore, unfortunately there are not as many Claudia Fanellis as we would like and that is to the detriment of our cause.
