obama-angst - a feeling of dread, melancholy or terryfying emotion from the idea that an obama change is on the way.

"Obama-angst" isn't bad, either. However, I have a different definition for it:

obama-angst: The American-version of El derecho de nacer

    P.S.

And please dont saying nothing like your hero George W.Bush.

If I may presume to answer the question that you posed to Vana.

    If I were POTUS:

Give Castro and his clique 24-hours to depart the island with their hides and loot.

    If they do not:

Impose a real embargo (you know, ships encircling the island).

Again offer them the opportunity to escape with hides and loot if they do so within 24-hours.

I assure you that they wouldn't need a second invitation.

Old men like to enjoy their declining years in comfort and security and Saddam Hussein's end weighs heavily on all of them.

I figured you would avoid the question. The only choice would be to invade Cuba. And you "know" that America would not send their sons and daughters to die for the Cubans.

Therefore, like Vana, you would do nothing about Cuba's freedom, just like Bush.

    Mat, told you!!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Mat, you dont understand the mind of a red-state racist republican as i d.

I told you before, and will tell you again. At my red-state racist republican dinner table of my family, no red-state bigot in good standing belives Obama is a racist.

If you want to make a compelling argument against Obama that harms his presidential ambition. Then argue that Obama has an immigrant father. That will make the red-state republicans come out in droves to vote against Obama.

Write a hard-hitting piece that Obama doesnt have an American flag bumper sticker. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  48. tabacón:

Yoani Sánchez one of Time Magazine's "One Hundred Most Influential People in the World?"

    If only it were true!

Although, certainly, having been chosen by Time for that distinction will increase her influence, which can only rebound to the benefit of Cuba.

    ReplyDelete
  49. john:

Yes, it is true that xenophobes would hate Obama for being the son of a foreigner (not an immigrant, because Obama Sr. returned to Kenya alone, abandoning his son).

But whatever hate they may nurture for him in that respect would be subsumed by the greater hate that they would feel for him as a black man and a successful black man at that.

Xenophobia is basically just another word for racism, which, granted, is more focused on brown than black but only because Hispanics (and particularly Mexicans) are an easier target of opportunity at this time.

    ReplyDelete
  50. fantomas:

What is this compulsion which you have to malign everyone who is better than you? Whether Martí or Yoani, you should be celebrating what they did or are doing for our country not trying to blacken their names with libels that demean you, not them.

    ReplyDelete
  51. And you will see how that boy sick with envy will put his dick in a pretzel and they will "congratulate" the blogging chick from Havana. It has to happen, yet.
As we say, that is know as "masked envy". If she falls, G-d forbid, their schadenfreude will be obvious.
The good are few, the mediocre are many.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I think the hatred for successful Obama is similiar to the hatred against successful Cubans.

Here, Obama is a son of a foreginer, besting Americans at their own game. And of course, my republican racist state hides their anger and jealousy behind code words in public. But at the dinner table you hear the truth.
You hear racist republican talk that Obama is an immigrant, or that he is not a "real" American, because he doesnt have an American name like Joe Smith.

I once asked my racist republican father, "why he hated Obama so much." My father said, "because he has an immigrant sounding name."

And that Mat is what this election will come down to in my redneck racist republican state. Which is the narrow-minded reason why i left it in the first place.

    ReplyDelete
  53. mat said: But whatever hate they may nurture for him in that respect would be subsumed by the greater hate that they would feel for him as a black man and a successful black man at that.

A Collin Powell would have easily beaten George Bush. Also, i think a JC Watts who was elected in all-white Oklahoma, would be given a fair shake.

Mat, it is all about the Spanish immigrant. Sorry, but it is. The hatered of the black man is trumped by the hatered of the Spanish immigrant. At least in my community.

    ReplyDelete
  54. LOL, and now breaking news, my hometown paper just "refused" to endorse Obama.

    Its all about immigration!!

    ReplyDelete
  55. mat said: Xenophobia is basically just another word for racism, which, granted, is more focused on brown than black but only because Hispanics (and particularly Mexicans) are an easier target of opportunity at this time.

"Easy targets" is way too simplistic to explain the increasing anti-Spanish backlash in America.

It is the fear of the English culture bein taken over by the Spanish culture. It is about the higher birth rates, it is about pressing two for Spanish, it is about entire cities being taken over like L.A. and Miami.

Also, the Republican party is hourly jacking up the anti-Spanish
    sentiment in America.

  56. Hola amigos cubanos

    ReplyDelete
  57. No, i would regard the 8% of those blacks who vote against Obama as black republicans. Part of the 4% of the black republicans who voted for republican ex-kkk wizard David Duke when he ran for governor of Lousiana, in 1990's.

Mat, you can twist and turn all you want. Fact is red state republicans are not going to vote for Obama because of the Spanish immigrant. I know it is to painful for you to admit, but it is true!!

You talking about that cocaine-sniffing, three time arrestee, ex-alcoholic George W. Bush, the Cuban-American's hero?

    ReplyDelete
  60. man, this obama fellow sure stirs up emotions in rcab. to me obama is an interesting fellow becuase he's mulitcultural, i can relate to him on that level. i think he probably understands better than the other twi the strugles of the common man, you know like paying your bills, filling the tank, paying your mortgage. you know the real stuff that we all have to deal with on a everyday basis. i have no issue with him being black or having a crazy pastor that's boberia.

frankly hillary comes accross like a b##ch with her we get back bill and monica in the bedroom i don't know that i wan't to go there again

mccain well he just seems to me like he is bush on steroids and i have no fondness for the cowboy. mccain is war hero that's honorable and he used to be a maverick an independent that's atrractive. but the stratight talk express lost his wheels in the last couple months, in order to get his republicans to join ride. and don't you think is age and temper is a factor. the thought of 100 more years is deal breaker for me. plus his admmission of not having a handle on the economics well there you have it,i'm back to the obamacan.

    ReplyDelete
  61. john:

George W. Bush is no hero of mine and never has been. His Cuban-American supporters know that he did nothing for Cuba and that is their reward for their doglike devotion.

Jeremiah Wright is Phase 1 of the anti-Obama Campaign.

Phase 2 will be even more interesting.

That is, if Phase 2 is ever revealed. Because Phase 1 doesn't seem to be going away any time soon.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Mat, Bush, the lazy, no good, ex-con, uneducated, drunkard, remains the popular hero of the Cuban-American community.

You know it, America knows, and the world knows it. And nobody will ever forget it!!

    ReplyDelete
  64. mat,

Phase 2 has already started with the anti-spanish rhetoric against Obama, i.e., making Obama out to be an immigrant.

Will you reject that type of anti-spanish rheotric against Obama?

    ReplyDelete
  65. mat

phase 1, phase 2 mas boberias. mccain phase 1 has started. If you think jerimiah is an albatross around obama, wait till the 800 pund bush gorilla gets linked to mcccain, just watch the latest adds in tv.

by the way mat we are not electing a cuban/american president in this election we are electing an american president, let's keep that in perspective. cuban/americans are about 1% of the us population so our issues tend get lost in the presidential debate noise.

    ReplyDelete
  66. corgiguy,

Cuban issues didnt get lost. Bush never gave a shit from the beginning. And yet, after nearly eight years, Bush remains undisputed hero within the Cuban-American community!!

    LOL

    ReplyDelete
  67. john

i can only speak for myself, bush is no hero of mine.

you got to stop that group/stereotype deal man. you make good points, but they get lost when you start grouping everyone into the same mold.

    ReplyDelete
  68. corgiguy,

When you have 95% of the Cubans in Miami vote for Bush the drunkard. Then i think i can assume that nearly all Cubans are Bush-backers.

Now you and Mat are the exceptions. But by no means does that absolve the fact that the world will forever link the Cuban-Americans and their children with Bush.

Having said that, i thank you for your compliment on my good points.
Very seldom to people say i make bad points. In fact, i make such good points that i often get kicked out of blogs, with whom the adminstrators have contrary opinions, as they cannot refute my direct hits.

Our "one issue" has (almost) all the candidates dancing to our tune at least until the election. After that, the winner just ignores us even if he owes us his election. John is not wrong in that respect.

    ReplyDelete
  71. John:

You further claim that it's the fear of English culture being taken over by the Spanish Culture, well what about the Italians, the Vietnamese, the Chinese, the Russians, and for that matter the oh so hated Irish when they first arrived.

There has always been xenophobobia in the American South, fear is a bitch my friend, that's all it is fear.

I can understand pressing 2 for Spanish, what I don't understand is pressing 1 for English...

    ReplyDelete
  72. mat

agree, with you one the one issue thing. that's why i call it boberia, becuase.

we sit here and argue and defend this politicians and stand behind and so on and then when they get elected they turn their heads.

personally i find the political drama etertaining, but my expectation are low. that must be the libertarian in me.
