Is Babalú dead?
I have asked that question before regarding its lack of comments. But now the matter is much more grave. It appears that no one is writing posts at Babalú anymore.
We are used to posts there that have no comments hitched to them. Babalú, after all, is the blog with more contributing editors than commenters.
But have its editors now also quit Babalú in disgust over its increasing irrelevance and unorthodoxy?
Has Babalú's "magnificent cadre of writers," as George Moneo alluded to his fellow contributors on the day he was ousted from their ranks, now refusing to march in lockstep with their generalissimos?
There are 16 of them altogether. Most editorial boards at major newspapers don't have 16 members. There are almost no blogs that do.
Yet between them they managed to put up just 7 post this weekend (2 posts consisting only of pictures without words and the other 5 each under 50 words).
Granted, week-ends are slow at most blogs but few blogs completely shut shop over week-ends.
The writing is on the wall. Or, rather, it is not.
POSTSCRIPT:
Business as usual at Babalú today (that is, practically none), but that didn't stop the dyspeptic Val from booting miramiradePalmira and erasing the comment which got her booted. Longtime commenter JackW presumed that it was he who was booted because Val's eloquent edict of eviction ("Comment deleted and asshole banned by el que más mea) followed JackW's comment. Yes, there appears to be a general panic among Babalú's commenters resembling "The Reign of Terror." And so Val, long-discredited as a censor and now a snitch, continues to preside at Babalú with the same arbitrariness in its decline as in its heyday. The fishbowl may be less populated but the shark's teeth are just as sharp.
MAT, i remember this post month back
ReplyDeleteLongfellow is Fantoma
Is this still true?
Corgiguy:
ReplyDeleteJohn has already alluded to his moniker being hijacked on this blog as well as on Miami's Cuban Connection. Fantomas is the most likely culprit. There are no doubt many Longfellows (his kind of popularity inspires imitators) but the genuine article is here with us right now.
BTW, why don't you get your pic fixed? As I recall it was a gift from me to you.
P.S.:

Babalu is dead!
ReplyDeleteLOL, what an entertaining post. :)
ReplyDeleteAs the "Real John Longfellow" i must say that Mat was very accurate in his analysis of me. With a few glaring errors, but mostly accurate nonetheless.
mat, just trying to keep the cast of characters straight, is hard to know who is real or fake here anymore. fantoma seems to many faces.
ReplyDeletejust i still use that pic that you baptised me with, i have to reset my picture in the blogger profile.
Babulu, much like the Roman empire has fallen from within!!

ReplyDeleteMAT -- They had a chance to shine on April 17th. But, the most interesting post on that important day was a recipe for pastelitos de guayaba.
Ps. I did like their link to La Brigada 2506...
fantomasiita:
ReplyDeleteLinking is Babalú's strongest point.
MAT, you know very well that louJIF always uses the "hijacked nick" excuse when he's exercising his demons. The lithium and electroshock can only last for so long.
ReplyDeleteOtherwise, why not just get a blogger account and foreclose the issue?
Noone:
ReplyDeleteWe must respect John's autonomy. He cannot be John without it.
Speaking of hijackings, I suspect your own moniker may have been hijacked recently as your name appears in black and not in blue.
The coming attractions at the Cuba Nostalgia Convention according to Val's latest post at Babalú:
ReplyDelete*** "See Val cry, live and uncensored" (he cries every time he visits RCAB, live and very uncensored)
*** "See Val the Fat Ass make a pig of himself (and these are supposed to be "attractions?")
I saw that. It was mispelled, as well. but it was a cut and paste from old MCC posts. several others were c/p'd as well, including AT...
ReplyDeleteAutonomy, indeed. I can respect it, but I can be critical of it at the same time. Would that the solution to any problem were as simple as this one.
lol, mat
ReplyDeleteI hope someone ask Val why he "outs" anti-fidel bloggers.
ReplyDeletenoone:
ReplyDeleteI've contacted the original AT and apprised her of the return of John in full gladitorial splendor.
We'll see if John's Dulcinea can be lured here to inspire him to new and greater feats of "hardhittingness."

Support the Cuban people in their struggle! It seems that this piece of shit is being financed by Castro.
It only tries to divide while ignoring the struggle of the Cuban people against the regime.

Anonymous & 5:07 PM:
ReplyDeleteThank-you for your vigilance.
I had supposed that with so very few commenters left at Babalú Val would not pick petty fights with the remaining ones.
But it must be one of those days for him.
Like 365 out of the year.
Keep monitoring the censors. As I have always said, RCAB welcomes all of Babalú's orphaned comments and evicted commenters.

Ok, first, what was the reason Val deleted, and banned him. Please explain!!

ReplyDeleteAnd while Castro attempts to silence the opposition in Cuba, you continue to do the same thing at Babalú. If you are not beating them up it's only because you can't reach across cyberspace.

ReplyDeleteyour multiple personality disorder is out of sync. Time to up the psychotropics dear. . .
You back Obama all over the blogosphere yet you deem to comment at Babalu against him.
Either you are very screwed up or you are a phoney. You go from blog to blog as "lleva y trae" and then after you throw the "proverbial" stone you hide your hand.
You were already uncovered as playing both sides and that is why you call KC and CB "chivatos". You forgot that you play, you pay.
Why don't you try to be as bold at Babalu as you are here. Today you called Vana, scum. The other day you called Manuel the lowest form of scum and you said Farinas belongs in the sewer. Let's hear you try your shenanigans at Babalu tough guy.
By the way, Mat, Vana and Farinas may not agree with you but at the very least they stick to their guns. You are like the wind. You have no shame.
Take your false outrage and sanctimonious outrage elsewhere.
So Val banned another commenter, what else is new, he does not learn does he, el que mas mea is an idiot, pretty soon he wont have anyone to push around, except of course the writers.

MaT,
ReplyDeleteI just read the post that caused Val's banning of miramira. Sheesh, what a classy response for the Editor in Chief. However, I did then read an excellent post by Cigar Mike Elite vs.Elitism where there was actually an intelligent, respectful discussion with no name calling. Check it out... What a difference. But then, I've always thought Babalu has some great folks as contributing writers I'm just amazed they don't object to Val and Henry's actions.

ReplyDeleteFree Biscet= 1 comment
Bash Obama = 10 comments
LOL, that is why America does not take the Miami Cubans seriously. Because they do not take themselves seriously.
P.S.
Henry smartly tries to illuminate Biscet for the world. Too bad the Babulu community doesnt even respect Biscet to bother with a kind word of support.
Struggle, what struggle?
Anonymous:
ReplyDeleteYou give Babalú too much undeserved credit.
Henry once got the bright idea that Oscar Biscet should run for president of Cuba from his jail cell against Fidel Castro under the Socialist "Constitution." Henry even appointed himself Biscet's voluntary campaign manager. The only problem was that he never bothered to inform Biscet. When news reached Biscet's wife in Havana, she begged Henry to desist immediately because he was going to get her husband killed.
I do not doubt Henry's admiration for Biscet, but such is his inexpertise in Cuban affairs that his campaign to "save Biscet" would have in fact resulted in his martyrdom.
Men like Biscet must not only be protected from Castro's goons. They also need to be protected from well-wishers whose zeal on his behalf will give us another martyr, precisely what Cuba doesn't need.
mat,
ReplyDeleteListen, Biscet represents everything that Mandela did. And that is freedom from an oppressive racist system.
The difference is that the South Africans (white and black) never let the world forget Mandela.
Hence, Americans, (except Cuban-Americans) supported Mandela, and took him and his cause under our wing, and making it our own.
Letting the South Africans know that, 1) no harm should come to him 2) he should be release 3) free elections must be immediately held
Henry, on this issue, is smart to inform America about this courageous Cuban who remains imprisoned.
It is tragic, that "Henry" appears to be the only Babuluer with the vision to understand the importance of Biscet.
However, due to the lack of support from other Babulu, "especially" Val, and your response. The Biscet posts from Babulu, appear to be superficial, and only from the "mouth out."
I could expect nothing less from self-loathing Cuban-Americans!!
henry and val have no cuban pride
ReplyDeleteJohn:
ReplyDeleteBiscet would be deeply offended to be compared to Nelson Mandela.
Mandela was never declared a prisoner of conscience by Amnesty International because he advocated violent means for the overthrow of the South African regime. In fact, more than advocated, since he was prosecuted as a terrorist bomber.
Biscet does not advocate the use of violence. Unlike Mandela, he has been designated a prisoner of conscience by Amnesty International and is very proud of that honor.
In fact, he always makes that distinction when a well-wisher like you thinks to "compliment" him by comparing him to the terrorist Mandela, who, incidentally, is one of Castro's most influential supporters in the world and as such an enabler of Cuba's tyranny.

Nonee,
ReplyDeleteLOL, Mat has my home state via my ip. And rest assure, i live in the reddest of the red states. In my state there is not a Cuban in sight, including myself.
Most Cubans, as most Spanish-speakers would find my home state very inhospitable. Even though, it is nearly all Republican!!
Hence, Mat's silence about your baseless assumptions.
Mat,
ReplyDeleteYou know i dont recall Nonee being this cynical in the ole days of MCC. It seems like Nonee has been influenced by Henry and Val.
Too bad really, Nonee wasnt that bad of a guy. Now he reminds of a baby who has soiled diapers, and just wont stop crying.
Who's crying, louJIF? All I said was that you might know more spanish than you let on. Why is that offensive to you? Unless, of course, all that huffing indignation is obfuscation.
ReplyDeleteI never said only cubans should discuss Cuba issues. On the contrary, if more non-cubans would do it intelligently and sincerely, some solutions might be had to so many issues that plague us as a community, not just the four corners of the Cuba issue itself.
The Biscet posts from Babulu, appear to be superficial, and only from the "mouth out."
Throw one more cubanism, please? C'mon...
Don't worry, knowing a little spanish doesn't make you cuban. Just like your little man-crush on MAT doesn't make you a girl. Just, don't get hysterical. (You should mention this episode to your gynecologist. He might dial back the estrogen.)

ReplyDeleteActually, i learned that from my bitch Ecuadorian ex-girlfriend. She always said my feelings towards her was from the mouth out. Being the intellectual that i am, i immediately pocketed that quote for future use, as i thought that quote was kind of cool.
As far as your remark about my alleged man-crush on Mat. Well, i dont have a crush on Mat. I flog Mat as needed, as i do others. He needs less flogging, as i largely agree with him on most issues.
Finally, as for your remark about me being "hysterical." Nonee, you are the one who comes into RCAB in need of a diaper change, not i!!
"obfuscation"
ReplyDeleteThere you go again using big words, for riddles. Just talk plain English.
John:
ReplyDeleteDo I find Nelson Mandela's unconditional support for Fidel Castro and the Cuban Revolution cretinous and highly offensive? Of course I do. So would any Cuban with an ounce of dignity.
Do I think that Mandela's support for Castro demeans him? Yes, of course, as would his support for Hitler or Stalin.
Do I think, as Mandela obviously does, that Castro is his equal?
No.
Mandela, despite his terrorist antecedents, did not do to South Africa what Castro did to Cuba or Mugabe to Zimbabwe.
I would commend him for that except that he has endorsed the enslavement of my people.
In that sense he is no different from or better than Fidel Castro.
The irony is that Mandela would consider that a compliment.
I loved your blog. Thank you.
