Is Babulú Dead Again?

Is Babalú dead?

I have asked that question before regarding its lack of comments. But now the matter is much more grave. It appears that no one is writing posts at Babalú anymore.

We are used to posts there that have no comments hitched to them. Babalú, after all, is the blog with more contributing editors than commenters.

But have its editors now also quit Babalú in disgust over its increasing irrelevance and unorthodoxy?

Has Babalú's "magnificent cadre of writers," as George Moneo alluded to his fellow contributors on the day he was ousted from their ranks, now refusing to march in lockstep with their generalissimos?

There are 16 of them altogether. Most editorial boards at major newspapers don't have 16 members. There are almost no blogs that do.

Yet between them they managed to put up just 7 post this weekend (2 posts consisting only of pictures without words and the other 5 each under 50 words).

Granted, week-ends are slow at most blogs but few blogs completely shut shop over week-ends.
The writing is on the wall. Or, rather, it is not.

POSTSCRIPT:

Business as usual at Babalú today (that is, practically none), but that didn't stop the dyspeptic Val from booting miramiradePalmira and erasing the comment which got her booted. Longtime commenter JackW presumed that it was he who was booted because Val's eloquent edict of eviction ("Comment deleted and asshole banned by el que más mea) followed JackW's comment. Yes, there appears to be a general panic among Babalú's commenters resembling "The Reign of Terror." And so Val, long-discredited as a censor and now a snitch, continues to preside at Babalú with the same arbitrariness in its decline as in its heyday. The fishbowl may be less populated but the shark's teeth are just as sharp.

  1. MAT, i remember this post month back
    Longfellow is Fantoma

    Is this still true?

    ReplyDelete
  2. Corgiguy:

John has already alluded to his moniker being hijacked on this blog as well as on Miami's Cuban Connection. Fantomas is the most likely culprit. There are no doubt many Longfellows (his kind of popularity inspires imitators) but the genuine article is here with us right now.

BTW, why don't you get your pic fixed? As I recall it was a gift from me to you.

As the "Real John Longfellow" i must say that Mat was very accurate in his analysis of me. With a few glaring errors, but mostly accurate nonetheless.

  9. MAT, you know very well that louJIF always uses the "hijacked nick" excuse when he's exercising his demons. The lithium and electroshock can only last for so long.

We must respect John's autonomy. He cannot be John without it.

Speaking of hijackings, I suspect your own moniker may have been hijacked recently as your name appears in black and not in blue.

But then, I've always thought Babalu has some great folks as contributing writers I'm just amazed they don't object to Val and Henry's actions.

LOL, that is why America does not take the Miami Cubans seriously. Because they do not take themselves seriously.

    P.S.

Henry smartly tries to illuminate Biscet for the world. Too bad the Babulu community doesnt even respect Biscet to bother with a kind word of support.

    Struggle, what struggle?

    ReplyDelete
  82. Anonymous:

You give Babalú too much undeserved credit.

Henry once got the bright idea that Oscar Biscet should run for president of Cuba from his jail cell against Fidel Castro under the Socialist "Constitution." Henry even appointed himself Biscet's voluntary campaign manager. The only problem was that he never bothered to inform Biscet. When news reached Biscet's wife in Havana, she begged Henry to desist immediately because he was going to get her husband killed.

I do not doubt Henry's admiration for Biscet, but such is his inexpertise in Cuban affairs that his campaign to "save Biscet" would have in fact resulted in his martyrdom.

Men like Biscet must not only be protected from Castro's goons. They also need to be protected from well-wishers whose zeal on his behalf will give us another martyr, precisely what Cuba doesn't need.

    ReplyDelete
  83. mat,

Listen, Biscet represents everything that Mandela did. And that is freedom from an oppressive racist system.

The difference is that the South Africans (white and black) never let the world forget Mandela.

Hence, Americans, (except Cuban-Americans) supported Mandela, and took him and his cause under our wing, and making it our own.

Letting the South Africans know that, 1) no harm should come to him 2) he should be release 3) free elections must be immediately held

Henry, on this issue, is smart to inform America about this courageous Cuban who remains imprisoned.

It is tragic, that "Henry" appears to be the only Babuluer with the vision to understand the importance of Biscet.

However, due to the lack of support from other Babulu, "especially" Val, and your response. The Biscet posts from Babulu, appear to be superficial, and only from the "mouth out."

I could expect nothing less from self-loathing Cuban-Americans!!

    ReplyDelete
  84. henry and val have no cuban pride

    ReplyDelete
  85. John:

Biscet would be deeply offended to be compared to Nelson Mandela.

Mandela was never declared a prisoner of conscience by Amnesty International because he advocated violent means for the overthrow of the South African regime. In fact, more than advocated, since he was prosecuted as a terrorist bomber.

Biscet does not advocate the use of violence. Unlike Mandela, he has been designated a prisoner of conscience by Amnesty International and is very proud of that honor.

In fact, he always makes that distinction when a well-wisher like you thinks to "compliment" him by comparing him to the terrorist Mandela, who, incidentally, is one of Castro's most influential supporters in the world and as such an enabler of Cuba's tyranny.

  96. Who's crying, louJIF? All I said was that you might know more spanish than you let on. Why is that offensive to you? Unless, of course, all that huffing indignation is obfuscation.

I never said only cubans should discuss Cuba issues. On the contrary, if more non-cubans would do it intelligently and sincerely, some solutions might be had to so many issues that plague us as a community, not just the four corners of the Cuba issue itself.

The Biscet posts from Babulu, appear to be superficial, and only from the "mouth out."

As far as your remark about my alleged man-crush on Mat. Well, i dont have a crush on Mat. I flog Mat as needed, as i do others. He needs less flogging, as i largely agree with him on most issues.

Finally, as for your remark about me being "hysterical." Nonee, you are the one who comes into RCAB in need of a diaper change, not i!!

There you go again using big words, for riddles. Just talk plain English.

  99. John:

Do I find Nelson Mandela's unconditional support for Fidel Castro and the Cuban Revolution cretinous and highly offensive? Of course I do. So would any Cuban with an ounce of dignity.

Do I think that Mandela's support for Castro demeans him? Yes, of course, as would his support for Hitler or Stalin.

Do I think, as Mandela obviously does, that Castro is his equal?

    No.

Mandela, despite his terrorist antecedents, did not do to South Africa what Castro did to Cuba or Mugabe to Zimbabwe.

I would commend him for that except that he has endorsed the enslavement of my people.

In that sense he is no different from or better than Fidel Castro.

The irony is that Mandela would consider that a compliment.
