A New Low in Babalú's Decline

Where Have All the Babalunians Gone?

In what must be a new low in the decline of the "dean of Cuban-American blogs," Babalú has received a total of 44 comments for its last 20 posts. Nine of the 20 posts received 0-1 comments.

I would advise those who think that RCAB has no readers to scramble over to Babalú and leave some comments because they desperately need you. Now.

If such a fate had befallen the Review, I would close this blog.

33 comments:

  1. It could never happen, Manny, because at least half, if not more, of the commenters here are you in different guises.

Just sitting around creating conversations....what a life.

  2. Your system of measurement is quite odd. No other blogger I have read counts the number of comments. On that, I will no doubt give you the crown, your highness. 5 commenters X 20 comments each = 100 comments. Congrats. And ditto what Rick said. 3 of the 5 commenters are you. So where does that leave you?

  3. Rick:

Alas, Rick, I am unable to write in any style but my own, which doesn't require a signature to be identifiable as mine.

I remember that you made the same accusation when I was commenting on your blog in its glory days. It irritated you greatly that your other commenters would praise me and not you. You even accused me of fabricating these favorable comments. The same thing was happening to me at Critical Miami, but Alesh compared the IPs and determined that this was not true. The people praising me had actually been commenting on your blogs long before I came aboard.

The only make-believe identities on this blog belong to those who attack me and are too cowardly to use their real names.

One would think, Rick, that my attacks on Babalú would please you, since your hatred for Val is well-known and continuing. But you can't derive any pleasure from that because I even attack Val better than you do.

What a life is yours, Rick. Always living in my shadow, hating me for what I did for your blog and hating me for leaving.

More of your standard BS? Now you are claimimg that bloggers don't care about comments at all. If that is the case, why do they invite them? Why do you?

  6. Manuel a blog is not considered succesful because of the amount of comments it has

    Who told you so?

If I disable the comments of my blog right now I can guarantee you that I could double the amount of visitors even

    want to bet?

  8. Obviously HITS do matter, you dont believe me? just go to Killcastro, August 24 2006, scroll down to the post
What Type Of Cuban Are You, read all the comments there, 31 of them, it will soon become apparent that comments and hits do matter, at least to Val, please do read all of KC's comments, he has all the dirt, it's all there for everyone to see

  9. As to the comment that many here are Manuel in disguise, that is the most stupid thing I ever read, If I could express myself as Manuel does, I would have written a book long ago, no way Manuel could disguise himself, his way of writing would give him away.

Why disable the comments on your blog? Wouldn't it be redundant? After all, you are not getting any comments now. The malaise of Babalú has spread to its acolytes. I wonder how?

  12. fantomas:

You will never be sent to The Madhouse for expressing your honest opinions here. It is only obscene, abusive or threatening speech which will get you consigned there. Be civil and you can be as adamant as you wish. Even in The Madhouse you can still continue to emit your opinions and others may respond if they wish. Even mad dogs have rights here at RCAB so long as they comport themselves properly.

A blog is a journal that is frequently updated and intended for general public consumption. Good Blogs generally represent the personality of the author. This blog represents the personality of Manuel and i would venture to say that he is doing it for his personal gratification.

I think the problem with Babalu is that it lacks personality because there are many authors that contribute to it( i believe over 7). So it's hard to get the personality of it. it feels more like a chatterbox.

Regarding comments that depends on the author. If the author is writing for his own pleasure to put out a point of view, comments are irrelevant. Just like the poet that writes a poem.

Now if you have blog to compete with other blogs then that's a different deal.

  15. Manuel,
It seems Fantomas can't express himself without using some kind of obscenity or an insult. As I said in one of my comments, this reveals more about himself than about those he aims his comments at. He is nobody's Nemesis but his own, his own worst enemy. By using such foul language he tells us more about himself that we can ever hope to guess about him. When I complain once about this, he told me:
"Agustin you should see the way the people in Cuba talk, there is no culture there anymore". Obviously some of that malaise has rubbed off on him judging by his language. Maybe we should use some soap on his mouth as my Grandma used to say when she heard such language.
As he himself said, "I only come here to make trouble, not to read anything. In my own blog I do not allow that type of thing." or something to that effect. Evidently he abuses your blog for his own purposes. That may be the reason Kill Castro deletes his comments and rightly so. I think he is beyond help now. Vana was right in ignoring him. I believe from now on I will follow her advice and her policy. A pest is better ignored. Enough is enough. I hope eventually he will get tired of being ignored and will crawl back to the dark Catacumbs he came from. He is used to doing this in other blogs too. Some people don't have any manners and this is a case to illustrate that point.

  20. For whatever reason, Longfellow always had great respect for me, though what I used to do to him makes my treatment of fantomas seem affectionate in comparison. Something which I never did, however, was bully or degrade him because I could, which is what everybody else did to him. No one, I think, has been booted more often than Longfellow from Cuban-American blogs, a dozen times by Val the Censor alone. I always used to defend Longfellow, because, as I saw it, he was the Ultima Thule: if a blog could put up with Longfellow, it really did embrace the First Amendment (and every other Amendment). We battled forever on Oscar Corral's Miami's Cuban Connection and last coincided on South of the Palmetto, where the nostalgia of the old battles replaced the belligerance, as it did for the veterans of the Grand Army of the Republic (GAA) and the United Confederate Veterans (UCV).

  21. Fantomas:

Well, you have done it now. You have proven to me beyond the shadow of a doubt that you have completely lost your senses. For you must be mad indeed if you presume to correct my English.

Comport is an English word. It may not be used in your circles where baby talk is the lingua franca, but it is certainly in the vocabularies of fluent English-speakers, and, of course, in every English dictionary.

I am going to set about immediately constructing The Madhouse which you will occupy upon its completion.

For starters, I will keep you on a regimen of bread and water (which you could certainly use) and I will order that your condition be treated with frequent buckets of ice water. I don't know yet if a snakepit will be necessary.

Your diplomatic immunity has been revoked. Now is the time for you to flee to Babalunia.

  22. corgiguy:

If I ever actually spun off the Babalú-bashing franchise and created a blog just for it, I had intended to name it "Babalu Revue." Your suggestion, though, is intriguing and does tempt me. There is only one little problem: It not I who is stuck on Babalu, but Babalu which is stuck on me like a piece of toilet paper trailing my shoe. I am still trying to shake it off without actually having to touch it. If they knew any bathroom etiquette, this would never have happened to me. But they festoon the earth with these banners too.

You are not trying hard enough. Your vast reserves of culture should yield something finer than "Shitfaced on Babalú." Even "Baba at Babalú" would be better.

a kinder, gentler Fantomas? Not possible unless he takes his daily dose of Thorazine. Remember we are dealing here with two personalities living inside one person.
