The Old Fart In the Plastic Bubble

Charlie Bravo's sources in Cuba report that there is a distinct possibility that the demonic-bionic man will make a surprise appearance at the official May Day parade in Havana. Certainly Alarcón's denial a week ago could well have been calculated to lower expectations so that Fidel's sudden public reëmergence (his geriatric sweet 15 or coming-out party) will be all the more dramatic and dazzling to the media hordes. Killcastro hopes that Castro will melt under the hot Cuban sun and, for myself, I second this emotion; but I don't think this will happen, for two reasons: one practical and the other supernatural.

The natural elements and the supernatural forces that control them have favored Castro (not us) since 1959. Any of one thousand hurricanes that swept over Cuba before 1959, and especially the legendary one of 1926, the year Fidel was born, which toppled the Maine Monument (what a harbinger was that!), could have disposed of his regime once and for all, making all the ruins fall and providing a tabula rasa for the reconstruction of Cuba. But no hurricane of that magnitude ever came to brighten our horizons after 1959; the laws of Nature have been thwarted by some unnatural force in the service of an even more unnatural one.

The practical reason for Castro's immunity from the sun's effects is that he will not be exposed to them. I am sure that if he does review the troops on May Day it will be in a fully-enclosed and air-conditioned pavillion, his own giant climate-controlled ecosystem, as pure and wholesome as Cuba's natural environment is polluted and unhealthy thanks to him. Thus encapsulated, like the proverbial Bubble Boy or the even more proverbial mummy of Lenin in Red Square, Castro will be on display, whether under glass or plastic; and the MSM, overcome with glee, will play up this story like the Second Coming.

If Castro does not appear, contrary to what we also believe is his ardent wish, we think that it will likely be because of mental instability and the fear on the part of Raúl and others that he may say or do something that will make the ruse obvious to all. His staged appearances on video, even edited and framed in the best possible light, display a tottering and addled old man, slipping in and out of reality — a caricature of the caricature he has always been. My prediction is that he will be wearing his green fatigues for his last "I am ready, Mr. DeMille." Lights, cameras, action.

  1. Manuel, we have talked many times about kasstro's pact with the Devil. A witness to the macabre ritual in la Sierra Maestra told us that the pact was for 50 years of power, the pact was signed with blood and fire in 1957, and we are in 2007. He hs lost a great deal of his rel power, now he is going to lose his leased "life" in the most horrible way; senility & dementia, served with pain and excrements. Let's see what happens today!

  2. banitoManuel, Kc,CB,
I hope that he doesn't show up. I would hate to see the output from the MSM about this tragic (for us) event. Akin to the Second Coming as Manuel has pointed out. We will be subjected to the endless reruns on the media of his amazing "appearence, how well he looks",he was at death's door and has made an amazing recovery" bullcrap etc. and on, and on. We will have to endure this nauseating spectacle for days and unfortunetely my reserve of Mylanta is very limited and I am unable to replace it where I am.!!!

  3. I'm betting he doesn't show. They cannot keep up the facade if they trot out some doddering relic that doesn't even know what year it is. I don't care what that lying SOB from Venezuela says; as if I'm going to take his word for it, that clone.

Plus, "the old fart in the plastic bubble" is an insult to John Travolta as he was soooo touching in that 70s' tearjerker, "The Boy in the Plastic Bubble"...

  4. But the point you make about hurricanes is an interesting one. At the end of the day, he's just been lucky the past 49 years. Certainly there has been many 50 year periods where Cuba has not been hit by the class 5. But let me remind you...there are two forms of luck - good and bad. Fidel has had all his good luck in the past. Now the odds of that continuing work against him and his brother everyday. Fact is everything has gone wrong since last summer when Fidel fell and his regime hasn't been able to get up. They've had a bad dengue outbreak that may still not be contained and here we are on the cusp of the rainy season again. Tourism has taken a dive and does not look like it will rise again as long as these jokers are in charge. Investment has stop. The infrastructure is collapsing. Cubans are grumbling all over the island. Their big oil refinery caught fire. The weather this past winter was wet and cold. I'd say the chances of Cuba being hit with a class five hurricane this summer or fall is getting close to fifty fifty. Mind you I'm not praying for that because it will leave millions homeless and hungrier than they are now. But who knows what this could set in motion?

  5. He finally is a no show.
Apparently, his condition is to embarrassing to show him in public.

  6. Thank God he did not appear. I hate to think of the orgy of "commentaries" from the MSM as to his amazing power of recovery" "how he has outlived 10 US Presdients" etc. There is enough trash on the MSM on a daily basis about his Robolucion, we should be spared the deluge of such garbage today.
By the way Manuel, I popped into the "Mambo Watch Blog" who was linked in Penultimos Dias, and discovered that the Blogger spends so much time humbling himself, he probably has a hard time finding time for posting. What a shame he does not change the name to Fidel's Watch. That would be a more appropiate name. He soils and besmirches the name Mambi, by using it on his Blog name. Marti, Maceo and others will be turning in their graves if they were to read it.

  7. Manuel,
I wonder why is it that no one in the MSM have asked why is it that the Cuban people have to hear the news about Castro's health from foreign presidents and not from himself? If he is healthy enough to write the editorials, if he can meet with Chinese members of the Communist Party, why can't he talk to the average Cuban on the Radio or TV? Since he used to bombard them with his tirades for hours on end, how come he can't speak for 15 min. on TV or Radio? Why all the mystery and suspense? If Hugo,Evo and Wu can talk to him, surely the average Cuban on the street is entitled to see him also? After all, he calls himself the "president of Cuba" even though he has never held any free elections.

  9. Charlie:

It was no doubt a miscalculation on the part of the Devil to become involved with Castro and he has no doubt regretted it many times. Now that Castro is physically in shambles and mentally comatose the Devil at last feels safe moving against him.

Use whatever teas are recommended locally; they probably pack many times the punch of Mylanta. I should think that even a double-brewed mate will do the trick. This, of course, is more than Castro can do. His discharge botton is broken and he has now become the thing whereof he feeds. He wallows in it and it wallows in him.

Yes, The Boy in the Plastic Bubble was the zenith of Travolta's acting career (as opposed to his dancing career).

I am sure that the very moment Castro leaves the scene the island will be rocked by a series of category-5 hurricanes. Castro has ruled Cuba for nearly 50 years and like the wild mushroom has left a dark stain that will never fade.

That is precisely the reason that I renamed him "Mambo Watcher." The author of that blog is a college student at FIU who has nothing better to do in those golden years than defame the name of our country.

On Castro's part, it is pure opportunism. I do not doubt that Fidel mocks Hugo behind his back; he is such an easy mark and Castro has never been one to pass up an easy mark. On Hugo's part, however, I believe the devotion to be genuine. That ridiculous and pathetic man's highest aspiration in life is to be Castro's shadow. Chávez expects, and Castro has encouraged this expectation, that the shadow will grow in proportion to the deterioration of the clay-footed original. I think it more likely that both will sink into the ground together.
