Joe has never faced him on an even playing field. The odds have always been stacked against him. On the one side there is Castro and his whole apparatus of repression. On the other side is Joe's derring-do and powerful strategy, worthy of a first-rate general; and, of course, his love of freedom, with which he has been able to imbue even those who have never known what it is to masters of their own destiny. Time and time again Joe's attributes of character have trumped Castro's whips and dogs. He has never failed before and he certainly won't allow Castro to touch his family even if he must surrender in the cause of freedom all which he has fairly won by championing it. If it were not for the fact that he is a principal in this case, I would see no reason to hope that justice might prevail.Manuel A.Tellecheahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08637085685599554349noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8021135461622264124.post-82489346374175100612007-08-25T20:53:00.000-04:002007-08-25T20:53:00.000-04:00Vana:It is precisely because he is a respected and...Vana:

It is precisely because he is a respected and powerful figure in our community that Castro has taken him on. He has many scores to settle with Joe Cubas and the little girl is the instrument that he is using to get even. This is nothing less than an attempt by Castro to kidnap the child of a political opponent.Manuel A.Tellecheahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08637085685599554349noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8021135461622264124.post-14101877278554103612007-08-24T12:55:00.000-04:002007-08-24T12:55:00.000-04:00Manuel:Thanks for bringing to our attention, that ...Manuel:
Thanks for bringing to our attention, that it is Joe Cubas who wants to adopt this child, he is a powerfull man in our exiled community, I doubt that the castro's will be able to snatch her away from him, that's good news ManuelVanahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08340793573089792646noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8021135461622264124.post-80951361291536378222007-08-24T06:48:00.000-04:002007-08-24T06:48:00.000-04:00I can see that Castro's last kicks are to snatch c...I can see that Castro's last kicks are to snatch children. Always fair children, if you noticed. Good thing that we don't live in the era of human sacrifices, or that we don't live in 1957, when Castro drank alcohol spiked with human blood in his "pact with the Devil" ceremony.
When I saw the name "Cubas" in the story, I understood that it had to go beyond the political slant, it was just personal vendetta.... They will try to ruin Cubas reputation in the meantime, and to drain him financially.
It's not about us, the exiles. It's just about the fate of a girl, and by extension, about the fate of all Cubans trapped in the island in a cycle of terror, under the grip of the tyranny.
When people are so optimistic that they feel that the system would go once Castro is buried, they should look at this case and see the evil nature of a regime at work. I see no signs of weakness or anything similar.
Joe Cubas will keep on doing what he does, nomatter what the outcome is, he gives passage to Cubans to freedom and that's what has made him into a target.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
