75th Anniversary of "4th of September 1933"
There were revolutions in Cuba before 1959. Castro's revolution was in fact an anti-revolution, which institutionalized tyranny in our country and closed the recourse to arms as a means of national liberation. The revolution to end all revolutions ended Cuban freedom as well, laid waste to our country and destroyed millions of lives. It is hard to believe today that there was a time when the word "revolution" did not have the ominous connotations that it does today but signified hope, sacrifice and redemption. So great is our repugnance for the word now that it has all but been written out of our history. No one speaks of Martí's Revolution anymore as if to associate him with that concept were somehow to defame him or acquiesce to Castro's characterization of him as the precursor of his anti-Cuban revolution. By ceding to Castro all rights to the use of "revolution" we have deprived ourselves of the most honorable motif in our history and confined it into the hands of one who has used it to pervert our past and deprive us of our future.
Today marks the 75th anniversary of the "4th of September Revolution." It transpired at a crucial crossroads in Cuban history: the forces of fascism, communism and democracy were contending for the soul of the nation after Machado's ouster and a sergeant named Batista decided the contest in favor of democracy. It was a revolution without firing squads; without political prisoners; and without the abridgment of civil or human rights. It returned stability to the nation and inaugurated the most progressive era in Republican history. Nationalistic without being militaristic, it demanded and obtained the abrogation of the Platt Amendment ending Cuba's vassalage to the U.S. and securing its absolute sovereignty. Its social legislation established Cuba in the forefront of the world's most advanced nations and gave Cubans a living standard that surpassed that of most Western industrialized countries. This was not the work of one man but a process that involved different players with conflicting points of view on the commonweal. All coalesced, however, to draft the Constitution of 1940, the synthesis of the achievements of the 1933 Revolution as well as its culmination and conclusion. A revolution that supplants the government has failed as a revolution and will fail as a government. The success of a revolution is judged by its demission not its perpetuation in power.
The 1940 Constitution was and continues to be a source of pride for all Cubans and shall one day be the cornerstone on which a restored Cuban Republic will be erected. In that sense the Revolution of 1933 is more alive today than Castro's Revolution because its roots are in the future whereas the 1959 Revolution is like a mushroom that has no roots and will leave nothing but a stain.

Batista should be judged on his merits and Castro on his (if he had any). Since you blame Batista for Castro's crimes, then I suppose that you must blame Machado for Batista's? And whom do you blame for Machado's? Who is the first cause?
I suggest that there is only one first cause -- the United States.
Batista = Guilty , guilty

I recall you mentioning that the only time your family enjoyed running water in Cuba was during Batista's tenure.
Have you not heard that cleanliness is next to godliness?
Manuel:
Anon to blame Batista for Castro is a cop-out and shows you were brainwashed by the "revolution" during Batista's time we lived in a free country, for the last 50 years that has not been the case.
Manuel:
I would consider Castro's revolution a true one (not a good one) as the word goes for it changed everything, that's what revolutions do, he took a prosperous country and destroyed it, a free people and enslaved them, I will take Batista's form of revolution any day.
Awsome post BTW, love reading our history.
OOOOPS I meant to address my first comment to anon 3:57pm
Vana & Manuel, the anonymous @ 3:57 PM is of the same mindlessness and lexicon (if we dare call it that) as that infantile useless idiot that goes by the moniker of Fantomas, the fool that keeps on trying to fool everyone else with baseless and empty platitudes and calumny, like the typical goons of the global Left he chooses not to debate what he knows has been debated at length and is way to tall an order for him to ever reach, like a spoiled child that has been told to learn to wipe his own arse but refuses to do so for he is too lazy and spoiled by his habits of taking from others what is not truly his, he bitches, moans, complains and accuses without regard to historical facts and honest testimony to the contrary, a Fidelista Sin Fidel, whose goal is to sow rift, division and vacillation among our people, he sways with the buffeting of the winds and deceives himself and HIMSELF ONLY, he believes that he has managed to triumph over his foes, in reality he is his own worst enemy, an idiot of the lowest order that trumpets his own brand of poison, one that was created, nurtured and then released onto the world of Cuban exiles to serve its true purpose, the pawn of the least value in Casstro's game of megalomania, he still believes that he serves as purpose, I say that he certainly does, but it is not the one that he claims but instead the one entrusted to him by his maker and master, the Casstro tyranny.
Manuel, please define and explain the significance of the colors, their meaning has been mostly lost in the dustbin of Cuban history. Thanks.

As in our national ensign, the red in the "4th of September" flag signifies sacrifice; the white, purity; and the blue, the elevated ideals of the patriot cause. The green was the color of the anti-Machado Revolution and the yellow (actually tan) that of the uniforms of privates and non-commissioned officers.
The "4th of September" flag was also once the flag of Cuba's Armed Forces.
Here is a remarkable "special" from Granma published in 2003, which could be called "The History of Batista's Jacket As Told by His Jacket."
It is remarkable because it acknowledges the legitimacy of the "4th of September" Revolution and of Batista's election as president in 1940. It also alludes to his courage in putting down a mutiny in 1941 and his popularity among the troops up to the last days of his government.
There is even the suggestion that the war against Castro was lost because Batista relinquished command of military operations to others and refused to "put on the jacket" again.
What is most critical in the article is also most risible: the anecdote about Batista trying to put on a pair of pants as a jacket in a moment of confusion during the 1952 coup:

MAT,
below in an entry from the comments section of the Cuban Triangle, a jewel from that temple of Republicanism and anti-castrism, Mr. Fantomas himself.
"Fantomas said...
Y sabes porq ue?
No comments are necesary.
MaT,
present. Agustin, thanks for that quote. So, just who is Fantomas?
PS: I'm a proud member of this kool-aid gang.
Agustin:
I am not going to tell you I'm shocked, fanto is a planted spy, that is why he comes in here to mess up the works, I don't trust him
Fantomas is an ex KGB, Actually he is a proud member of PCC
To you guys (you know who you are). Did I call it, or did I call it? I nailed him for what he truly is a long time ago. Well done Agustin
Manuel, thanks for enumerating and reviving the details of the "Armed Forces Flag of the Republic of Cuba" my maternal granny had saved the one that was honorably given to her along with the Cuban flag at the internment of my maternal grandfather, he rests at the Cementerio Santa Ifigenia in Santiago, she kept all of his military gear and officer's trunk, that's where I remember it from. Thanks again, you brought back some old memories of my childhood.
Folks,
it says on the Bible that by their deeds they shall be known.
Review all of Fantomas' postings and his/her own words and decide for yourselves who this character really is. The comment from Fantomas in the Cuban Triangle, a very well known blog that apologizes for Castro's totalitarian regime at every turn, and home to some of the most anti-American leftist commenters, such as Mambi Watch, Afina and Leftside, is priceless. It reveals the inner workings of that twisted and mischiveous evil mind that is hidden beneath that laughable rubber head disguise.
Vana: "Anon to blame Batista for Castro is a cop-out and shows you were brainwashed by the "revolution" during Batista's time we lived in a free country, for the last 50 years that has not been the case."
Vana, in that case, what do you have to say about your boss Tellechea blaming the United States for everything bad that has happened in Cuba?
Would you also call that a "cop-out" or wouldn't you dare to do so?
Regarding what you said about Cuba being "free" under Batista, shows that you do not understand what the word freedom means.
Cuba has not been free since March 10, 1952 until now.
I can understand Tellechea defending Batista because he and his family were sucking Cuba's tits dry under that dictatorship, Were you and your family also getting rich thanks to Batista's corrupt regime? Inquiring minds would like to know.
Rubber head,
the only gift you can possibly send to me, would be your disected genitals in a wooden box, having previously been removed and dettached from your body by a taxidermist, and also with a previous DNA verification from a reputable laboratory to certify that they were really yours, Enrique.
Then I will proceed to hang them in my den along with my other trophies. Now, that will be a gift you can send me.

No my family had no dealings whatsoever with the Batista goverment or any other for that matter.
Yes the good ole' USA always meddled in our affairs, it was the USA who helped keep Batista in power and later withdrew their support and gave it to Castro, thanks to this country Castro is still in power, go read our history you will see the sinister hand of the USA everywhere.
anonymous at 9:16 AM:
One of the many differences between Batista and Castro is that prosperity in pre-1959 Cuba was not conditioned on one's political associations. In Communist Cuba, however, the only plutocrats are Castro's henchmen.

Vana, like your family, most Cubans just wanted to live their lives in peace and put their best efforts to improving their lot by availing themselves of the multitude of opportunities that the Republic of Cuba and its Constitution of 1940 provided, unfortunately for them and for those of us who are their descendants, there were many insidious interests that worked in the shadows and others in the open disguised as something other than what they truly were, there are many culprits of our homeland's demise, US interests were some of them, but certainly not the only ones, the Comintel was deeply entrenched in Cuban society's underground and exploited our people's nationalistic fervor for it own global interests, some of our ancestors were willingly deceived, others saw it for what it truly was as my parents did, the idiosyncrasies of our people's nature easily led to what we have had since 1959, the naiveté of so many led all of us to our doom, this is the same goal that the Comintel has for the USA, witness the Marxist Obama and his close cabal of supporters, their actions are a dead giveaway, yet many Americans are being "played" into believing that these evil liars will fix the problems of this society, sounds familiar, right?
Fanotmas Lesnick,
Exactly WHY did you leave Cuba? Political, economic, towed by parents?
I despise Lesnick-El duende
Sorry he is no friend of mine

Mr. Fantomas,
could you please instruct us on how to become a Professional Blogger. I am an amateur and would like to know what I need to accomplish in order to become Professional. Is there a Professional Blogger Curriculum? Certification Test? Regulatory Organization I need to join? How about hours of CEUs?
Please advise.
Thanks.

You are a real PRO, but as in Professional Rectal Orifice. Within that field of endeavor I can see that you have many years of experience being a complete asshole obviously so yes, you can be considered a PRO.

Vana,
So now Rubber Head has also a mind that can see into the future and is a professional weatherman besides being a Professional Rectal Orifice.
Talk about being haughty and self conceited. Rubber Head has to be the most pompous rectal orifice that has come out of Cuba's Eastern province since the Caga-andante himself. Perhaps is all that latex cover material on the mask that is affecting detrimentally that poor lonely brain cell that lurks beneath it.
Agustin:
He's so conceited he thinks they will name a hurricane after him, if they do it will fizzle out over the Atlantic and become a minor tropical storm..lol, he's great in his own head and there his fame ends, as we Cubans say... Mas conocido en su casa.
