Last year, on Father's Day, we posted a tribute to José Martí's father, whose place in his son's life has often been diminished by historians. Some have even perpetrated the myth of an unsympathetic or indifferent father whose allegiance to his native Spain put him and kept him at odds with his son. There have even been those who have suggested that Mariano Martí was an abusive father. Nothing could be a greater injustice. The devotion of this simple man to his son was a source of strength and pride for Martí all his life:

Manuel Marti died 200 years ago
Por favor vamos a hablar algo contemporaneo
Marti no traera la liberacion de Cuba , su tiempo ya paso
Wake up man, live the present not the past
anonymous:
The past is always with us. This is true for no people more than for Cubans.
At this moment, you are the sum total of your past. You cannot add into that equation the future because you have no idea what it will hold until it has transpired.
The greatest men are so because even in death they impact the future. Such a man was José Martí. His life, what he said, what he wrote, and, most importantly, what he did, will impact the future more profoundly than the words and deeds of any living man.
Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
~ George Santayana
MaT,
I love these historical posts of yours, in particular. . .
MAT,
what kind of Cubans are these that forget their history and comment that Jose Marti is irrelevant today?

Manuel:
Thank you for posting again last years tribute to Marti and his father, again it stirred my soul, reduced me to tears, no grater love for Cubans and Cuba has ever been penned or felt, our love for Cuba was felt tenfold by Marti who gave his life for us, too bad we squandered it.
May God have mercy on us, we have failed Marti, and all our heroes.
Manuel, I just read your linked post of June 17, 2007. My soul filled with pride, reverence and further understanding of the privilege that I have been bestowed by Divine Providence to be able to express my filial and platonic love for my father to my father on such a especial day and every day, for you see, for me my father is my own Mariano Martí and I hope and pray that God grants him many more years on this earth, not out of selfishness, but out of love, respect and further appreciation for the privilege. There is great difference between recounting, appreciating, learning from the past and living in the past, being able to tell the difference demands a sober and circumspect mind. We can learn much from the past and specifically from our fathers and our Apostle. Thank you Manuel.

Hopefully Manuel will not follow suit or Fantomas would have a nervioso breakdown
Mat: thanks for the link to last years post. I love that poem by Jose Marti.
As the saying goes- "a picture is worth a thousand words". But, Marti could paint a thousand pictures with just a few words.
ANNOUNCEMENT:
I will have a major post up shortly on what has transpired at Killcastro. The blame, of course, lies chiefly with Babalú.

He died in 1895.
As far as Valentina Chivata, there are other ways to deal with him. There are public records available on line through the county assessor.
It would be easy to locate his address and post it.
I closed my blog because i am tired of the attacks against me and my relatives in Cuba. I'm thru with the blogs
The blame, of course, lies chiefly with the two magpies, for chivatas y breteras
The blame of course lies chiefly with Babalu:
